Exactly. I think the C8 Vette is about the only thing that costs less to go faster? That is a different category. I've also seen a few IRL and am not impressed personally.

Same. Price for power, electric is pretty good. Only thing they can't match is sound and feel

I've only ridden as a passenger in a 3. Not too bad honestly. I am very interesting to see how a Taco-like EV would feel.

For sound, nothing ever seems to sound as good as an unleashed V8 or fast revving V10 (one that isn't in a Viper). I've made my peace there though.

2035 is the year California and a lot of the EU has mandated all new vehicles to be EV. Don’t know if the is pure electric or if hybrid counts, or does it just prohibits pure IC, etc.

I predicted the death of the manual in 2020, so far I've been wrong 2 years in a row.

Catalytic converter temps and less than ideal shifting has lead to issues with emission standards.

I hate manual trucks and offroading in a manual so it doesn't phase me. I doubt we'll see it in 4th gen when its annouced.

If I'm ever forced to get an electric truck, I'm still putting a loud ass performance exhaust on it.

lol. as long as both are street legal. If they volunteered to race, then they accepted the possibility to lose. Seems like they're admitting defeat

I bought my Tacoma as a kind of throw back to the one I had many years ago. It was a 1990 pickup no name just a Toyota truck. It was a manual and I enjoyed it as I enjoy my current truck.

I do have one question for all the ev and green energy folks
What will all the cars be built with? I mean the materials used to make them steel aluminum plastic glass rubber etc.

I don’t object to ev but don’t prop yourself up saying we are green while using dinosaur bones to lean on.

They put it out so far so they can change it between now and then.

It's about mitigation and conservation. Completely cutting out all fossil fuels in a day is not only unnecessary, but impossible. Nothing wrong with moving in the direction of an electric and renewable infrastructure, but things will still be using fossils. There are other (smaller) countries that have moved lots of energy production to renewables, mainly in European countries that are more dense. Nothing is quick, but things are moving in that direction.

I don't care that much that all new vehicles will be EV. What irks me is that getting gasoline for the ICE vehicles I will inevitably keep until I die will require a 30-50 mile drive most likely at some point.

Coal is really only a thing in the eastern states now...not that I agree with forced economic obsolescence. The bigger slap in the face to renewables is when you actually dig into what it takes to produce a battery, wind turbine, or solar panel. Also reminds me of the stat that says those who are most worried about the environment have the worst environmental habits to begin with.

We're not talking vegan / holistic change here. Just the motive force.

Unless the world decides to go back to being hunter / gatherers like the ending of Battlestar Galactica, we're in this mostly as seen now. It is just a goal of somehow living with billions of folks on one tiny rock.

I'm with you, rational or irrational, I just purchased a 2021 Tacoma Sport 2 - 3 years earlier than I planned to owing to the possibility of the MT going away.

I love the manual, all of my cars and trucks have been manual save for one.

I expected the 6 speed to require more frequent shifting compared to the 5 speed, so I was not concerned about this. I've owned 6 speed motorcycles and it was the same.

I have no regrets, I wanted an access cab, and the only one available was the Sport. I am not in Moab climbing rocks, but I am actually one those here who do go off road for hunting and the occasional camping trip, but nothing too extreme.

Funny - I wanted an MT OR DBCB, but in Canada you can only get an MT OR Access Cab, whereas the only MT DBCB is the Sport (unless you go Pro - fickle fickle Toyota gods). So I too ended up with a sport because MT was the greater good vs OR/Sport.

While I agree, the manual transmission seems halfway out the door already, I wager it won't truly disappear for many decades, if ever. There is clearly a demand and where there is demand there is usually money to be made. Furthermore, a huge chunk of the world still primarily drives manuals so it's not like R&D on manual transmissions is going to dry up anytime soon. They will be out there but they will become increasingly difficult to obtain in the U.S.

Agreed. I don't think they'll die out entirely, but they'll become a luxury as they diminish from the newer models and if I had to hazard a bet, trucks will lose them first. I know Porsche is offering it still on the new GT3 so there's hope. As long as there's a market, there'll be a supply, but there'll be a cost for it. Good thing the used market will (hopefully) still be available.
