If it's issued by a government agency, they can certainly get it. If it's issued by a private medical provider, they can most likely get it.

HIPAA protects very limited, specific, information. The police can get most of it as long as they can show a legitimate investigatory reason. We used to get subpoenas from the police all the time for homicide and other investigations.

Sorry to appear to spread misinformation regarding the topic but it’s nice to see conversation about it. I’d imagine anything is accessible with the right paperwork or agency. MMJ is tracked because it’s controlled and only allow patients allotted x number of days depending on dose day per package. Each state does this program very differently and would be better if there was consistency across the board along with CCP registration and certification. I’m hoping legislation will change for the better considering someone could be prescribed every legal pharmaceutical in the book as long as they aren’t “addicted” no one bats an eye. Allow someone to consume a plant? Preposterous. Lots of gray areas ahead for gun ownership and I’d imagine us owners need every vote possible. Removing as a schedule 1 drug (laughable that this is comparable to cocaine and heroin) and decriminalizing would be a great start for everyone, 2A supporter or not. Sorry to hijack OP.

One of my coworkers was a sniper in the Army and served in Fallujah; He has PTSD and believes that weed would help him out a lot, but won't smoke it or get a marijuana card because it would cost him both security clearance at work and his concealed carry license...

I asked my mom she said in PA at least it's issued by the state. She is of the opinion it would show up while buying a gun especially since it's mentioned elsewhere.
Fucked up isn't it? It's not approved by the VA from what I understand. I'm a big proponent for medical Marijuana. It's been the best medication for my mom and she's not a alcohol/drug user type.

Edit. My wife and I looked it up. He could maintain a CCL in PA. No purchasing firearms I'd the big turn off.

I have always been pro-2A, but I’ve never had that much of an interest in owning a gun (or guns in general) until last year. My friend took me shooting at an indoor range last September and I loved it! Unfortunately, due to a busy work schedule and the whole COVID thing I have not been back.

That said, my mom is a typical mom and is worried about what she sees as a new “obsession” with guns. My dad says it’s 100% normal.

A friend of mine, who is not only a gun owner many times over but also an Aspie and a veteran, assures me that being interested in guns is no different than being interested in cars, women, and fart jokes.

The friend who took shooting had an extra subscription to Guns & Ammo which he gifted to me, and I’m currently reading the HANDGUNS magazine I just got in the mail. The following emoji describes how I feel...

On another note, what do people think of the Super SCCY...?

Well, yeah. Of course it's normal. I'm always a bit leery of people who don't own guns.(not that I know many who don't)

Most of the people who don’t like guns, don’t know anything about them. They just believe what their form of media tells them.

I don’t know anything about the sccy but I do have a few different .380s that I’ve used for everyday carry. Great little guns, especially for first time handgun owners. A .380 auto is just a 9mm with a shorter case length and less powder. Most have a small frame making it a great conceal carry gun (with your states laws taken into consideration).

I once worked with a veteran and we diagnosed him as mildly aspie. Loved that guy and the focus with attention to detail was unparalleled. Especially since he was ET/IT. He also had a boatload if guns like everyone else.

Some obsessions can be healthy but many or not. Instead of consuming all the knowledge at once on new things revisit the past ones. Weapons of war for example: specific wars, specific theaters, etc.

Another thing is that there will always be the next new thing. I know of 6 people off the top of my head that EDC a gun that is 10+ years old. A few carry guns nearly their age. So the next new thing may not always be what is best for you. Knew a guy that was taking an African Safari. Of all the guns he had access to he took the H&R single shot .35 Whelen. A gun and round that has been around nearly 100 years.

Yep. They are pretty strict about all firearms down here. Long guns too!

    :(

I heard that Canada is pretty strict about firearms too...

One thing I was interested to find out is that in Alaska, convicted felons are allowed to own long guns, but not handguns; This is because hunting is such a way of life there and a lot of people need shotguns and rifles to hunt for food and generally survive.

Having been in law enforcement and being a gun owner. I see how useless and misguided so many gun laws are.

Random and likely stupid question; I'm reading my latest issue of HANDGUNS and there's an article about a semiauto in .380 that comes with a red dot for $300; I'm also reading about a handgun that has a white dot...

What is a red dot for, what is a white dot for, and what is the difference? I looked up red dot and got two different results; The type of safety, and the sight...?

Yeah. The laws in Canada are ridiculous and getting worse under the present leadership. The law abiding gun owners are really under attack now. You couldn't even imagine how bad it is.

They are just a way of seeing where the firearm is aimed. It's either in the firm of a lazer light, or a dot that appears in a sighting device. A lot of carbines have the red dot sights.

No such thing as stupid question, in my opinion. That's how we all learn.

I do have a concealed carry permit, but my primary interest in firearms is for sport/target shooting, rather than defense; I honestly don't think I'd have the patience to go hunting, since my dad never shot anything when he went hunting with his Navy buddies back in the 1990s.

I got my CCW permit for two reasons; I wanted to get one while it was still easy to do so in case it becomes more difficult later, and if I get pulled over with firearms in my truck while driving to or from the range, having a CCW would make things a hell of a lot less complicated!
