I miss the true good ole days before all the bs, bans, and the third gens. Back when it was just good truck knowledge, some wheeling gatherings, and the underground.

Hi everyone! Just got done working on my truck for the day and well...it’s still f’d up. After talking to @Red Baron he said I should post here to see what you dudes thought. He thought maybe @thefatkid would have some insight.

About a week ago my truck starting making a weird squeal/ ticking noise. At first I thought I’d bent a rod or something horrible, but upon digging in I found that idler #2 was missing some balls from its bearing. A quick trip to Orielly, and I had a pulley in.
After install, a serpentine squeak appeared. So I double checked the belt was in the grooves, everything was turning properly and all seemed good other than the annoying squeak.

I went to leave my house and had to 3 point out of the driveway. At this point I realized maybe it was my power steering pump/ps pump pulley. So today I finally got around to doing the pump swap.

After I installed the Ps pump, filled with fluid and double checked everything, I started and went lock to lock.Still squeaks. I took it for a test drive. Still squeaks. Parked, I realized that when I was turning, the noise got worse and straight there was no noise at all. At full lock, the squeak is the worst and actually starts to slow and almost stop the fan.

I’m lost. Next I’ll change the water pump, but I’m not sure what is going on here. Any thoughts or suggestions?

trying to upload video but I suck at this.

Anyone know where in the Denver area I can buy used/scrapped motors? Like out of furnaces, or dryers, etc. Just for random shop projects.

crazy question, but is the belt routed correctly and did the new idler match the same diameter of the old one?

also have you checked to see if the screen at the bottom of the p/s res is clogged up?

so the diameter was the same, but I did notice it was thicker and didn’t have a shield over the bearing. Yes, the belt is correct. And yes on the res. I cleaned it today while I was doing the pump.

did you install a new belt at the same time? honestly the only time ive seen this happen was a 5.7 tundra with the belt routed wrong, the tension was ok when not using the steering no noise. but once you turned the steering wheel it would do exactly what your video shows.

past that all i can say is check the crankshaft pulley and make sure the rubber hasnt separated and its not actually the outside diameter of the crank pulley thats separated from the inner part
