A good mental challenge for me. I first thought where in Texas? Then realized that's DEN!

My home strip is 661 miles on a course of 331 from there!

Just within range of full tanks, with enough reserve (50 gallons main, 20 gal aux).

Sigh, sold my Bearhawk some time back, but great memories. Now, where did I leave my E6B, 14 gallons per hour, but if throttle back....

You had me going for a moment. With our Texas storms, I was thinking "that runway has strong winds". My mind finally clicked Denver! I'll fess up to pulling up a sectional to find the name of that place.

Home was 3500-foot grass. Too many cirrus owners, so they paved it! 3000 x 30. Density altitude is an issue, a neighbor on the south end had a hunk of his chimney trimmed by a prop.

A friend dropped me off, took off in his Bearhawk. We had a strong 20-knot wind, he needed about 200' and was airborne. It caught him off guard as he was climbing over 2000 ft a minute. A few neighbors asked, "what was that". "Homesick angle".

Hey folks, just found this thread and wanted to say hello. I’m glad to see so many other Tacoma owners love aviation. Currently working on my PPL in a 172, but for my day job I work at a local TV station and usually am the photog in our helicopter. Absolutely the thing I enjoy doing most in my job.

Sweet birds. I learned in a 172N. The rest of the fleet was fuel-injected and newer but I felt at home with the 172N and its primer pump! Cold weather starts only, avoid fouling plugs.

It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the end.

And you don't need to be that high, I had a crash on launch from 30 feet smack AFU, Seen a guy checking fuel on a 2 foot step ladder fall- hit his head and his wife pulled the plug on him 3 days later. Doesn't take much at all/

Maybe good to know if you’re in a U2 over KDEN and need to divert.

Diverted in there 2 years ago about midnight after holding at 410 for an hour while all the Dallas area was shut down for thunderstorms. They were the only ones to answer a phone and came out to meet us and help get transportation for passengers. Nice folks

Is that an Army TH-67 in the background? Really weird place for that to be at if it is, though I guess the Army might've started selling them since making the terrible decision to use UH-72s as primary trainers.

I know it’s not a UH-72 since it don’t have the tri-paneled tail beyond that never seen it before.

Anything fun to fly in the area? I'm at RBD for work, and might have some downtime in my future.

Yeah, definitely not a 72. Some quick reading says the Army has been selling them off for almost two years now. I found an article about 60 of the old girls being sold to Colombia back in August 2019. I wouldn't be surprised if that one was sold for $1 to a local police department and hasn't been repainted yet.
