Does anyone know if there is anything to watch out for when splitting a M/T AWD FJ case to swap inputs? I am going to be splitting one to try and install the input from an auto FJ case so i can put it behind an R155F 5speed. Im guessing i should be splitting the case with it in the high unlocked position right?

 

What shifter boot you use?

 

I split the AWD case in high unlocked and the detent keys sprung out, so just take lots of pictures and find the FSM for your tcase before-hand. If I remember correctly, the input shaft/planetary gear assembly was completely different, and I don't think they're interchangeable...

Not a Tacoma but this swap is gaining some interest with some of the 4th gen 4Runner crowd lately. Did the swap on my 03 V8 4Runner back in October of last year and have almost 10k miles on the swap now, without ADD in the front.







Gathering parts slowly to do a 4wd conversion, using an FJ tcase, on my daughter's 2013 PreRunner Tacoma. Hopefully be able to do that by the end of the year for her.

 

Does anyone know a place to get the double shift boot like the one from RST for the single stick with a manual ?

 

Where can I get that leather looking shift boot besides RST , since they won’t return emails ?

 

RST is long gone, go with a local upholstery shop or redline shift boots

 

This is the factory leather boots for the FJ Cruiser. It came when I ordered the shifter for the RA61. Had to do some modifications to make it fit.

 

Just finished with my fj tc swap. Got everything wired up with my twin sticks installed. But now I have a clunk shifting from reverse to drive and occasional when I slow down to a stop. U joints are good and everything is tight. Anyone have this issue or did I get a bad transfer case?

 

the bolts on your driveshaft tight?

 

Double checked everything. Everything is tight.

 

was there any noted "slop" on the case before you installed? i.e. hold the output flange stationary and try and move the input shaft?

 

Bad ujoints on Toyota can be tricky to find sometimes , how are you checking them?
