I almost forgot this one from that day. The group was on the way to Pocono Raceway where Erik was going to lead a parade lap on the new S-1 Lightning and we're going through a park of some kind on the way. I don't recall if a state park or some National Forest land or something like that. My 2 buddies and I are mid pack and the pace is.........let's just say well in excess of the speed limit signs we see. My friend John had just recently acquired his Bull S2T Thunderbolt and didn't have a lot of experience and he inadvertently came up on me on my right a little close so I moved left to give him some space when WHAM! I hit a pothole in the road with my front wheel to the point I thought I knocked teeth loose. Scared the crap out of me and all I could think of was what might have happened to my bike. Made it to the track and looked it over and couldn't find any damage.

At the track we're up in the stands and they make a big deal of announcing Erik Buell is here and going to take a lap on the new S-1 Lightning. Right out on the front stretch Erik dumps the clutch on the bike and proceeds to launch a sky high wheelie that loops the bike right over. He's not hurt but definitely embarrassed. Later on the ride home when my friends and I stop for fuel I notice the way the sunlight is now hitting my front wheel something doesn't look right. We go look a little closer and determine that pothole has bent the lip of the front wheel. Air pressure is okay but we dropped our speed way back for the rest of the ride home. Had to turn in an insurance claim to replace the front rim. On the bright side the insurance company never claimed that rim from the dealership so I ended up getting to keep it and still have it in my basement now. My bike has the optional Performance Machine rims and they were pricey even back then.

I haven't, yet. Someday I'd like one for around town, they make a whole lot of sense as a grocery getter. I can't see them being a long-ride type of bike yet though. Battery packs are still just so limiting and anything above 60mph your range plummets.

Plus, I live kind of in the middle of nowhere. So to get to any big city and back I'd have to recharge somewhere along the way and I don't think wheat fields have fast chargers.

I stopped at the HD dealership I used to work for in the Fall and they were doing demo rides on their LiveWire that day. Spoke to my old boss and he told me to come back in the Spring and they'll let me have one for an afternoon. Said his wife had ridden it and really liked it but they had done something with that bike to soften up throttle response as she's a fairly new rider. Joe promised me the one I get handed will be unlocked and unleashed so I should have some fun. Once this finally takes place I'll post up and let you guys know my thoughts.

Watching the long way up, especially the first or second episode where they are at HD doing a test ride of a stock one, they're nutso amounts of torque. I bet you'll have a blast on it!

    Motorcycle Thread
I just purchased my first ever motorcycle. I'm 38 years old with absolutely no experience whatsoever. I took the four day motorcycle safety class at the local Harley Davidson dealership. For the class we were riding the Harley Street 500's. I quickly realized that this particular bike was one that I was not interested in buying. Nothing against Harley or even the Street 500's. It just didn't fit me well and I did not like the riding position.
Anyhow, fast forward a couple of months and a few test rides later I purchased a 2019 Honda NC75Ox. I'm really loving this bike.
It's not fast. It's not a high revving engine. Probably great for a beginner bike. It handles so amazing. So much fun to go through corners at speed. I'm really impressed with this bike.
Now I need to figure out the best way to load this thing in the Tacoma and haul it.

Welcome to the bike thread Jeff. Those are nice bikes. Reliable, easy to maintain, and big enough to tour on if that's your desire.

    Welcome to the club!

Started riding with zero experience as well! Take it slow, visit your local parking lot! Long, faster rides will come soon enough!

Dealer had to deliver my bike since all I had was the 2 day MSF course! Ride safe bud! :bikewheelie2:

That stretch from Moses to Pullman is one long, flat, painful drive where the most exciting scenery is reading the labels on wire fences that say what is grown in the field.

Welcome! You made a good choice for a beginner bike. Ergonomic, reliable and enough power that you won't feel the need to upgrade like you would had you bought a 250-300cc street bike.

Hey! Thanks a lot. This bike really seems to fit me. I'm pretty anxious for this snow to melt so I can get back to cruising. Motorcycle camping trip is my ultimate goal for this coming summer.

Ditto! You got me by 11 years! Didn't start until I was 49 and that is a really good choice for a starter bike! I started out on a Ninja 300 and, after a year, felt like it was time to move up. It wasn't (lol!) but having something with a little more hp would've been nice and probably would've kept me from thinking that for a little longer!

    @WingsTacoma

Welcome to the thread! The first time I even sat on a motorcycle was 2019, when I was 37. I’m another late bloomer.

I also took the MSF course to get my license, and my beginner bike was an older Ninja EX250 (still have it and love it). Nice choice on taking the safety classes!

Why do some insist on parking their bikes right in front of the entrance at say a grocery store? So annoying. Pick a damn parking spot! :annoyed:

Contacted him and tried to talk him down to $2k. Had him down to $2200 before I found out it was wrecked.

Because the Grom looks extra silly taking up a whole parking spot.

That is one good looking bike. Naked street fighter bikes look like they are meant for wheelies and running from
    cops. :bikewheelie2:
