Taco Sauce TX Pro Build: Custom LT, 37’s, Tundra Axle Swap, and now a Back Half?

Did you swap mc’s - installing the sequoia mc and 5th Gen calipers on my 1st Gen this week

 

Can’t with the ATRAC and abs module. I’d have to ditch the whole abs module. Not that I’m super opposed to this, but not until I get a front locker vs using ATRAC

 

Fun New Years trip testing out some new gear and doing an initial tow trip. Everything worked great other than a nail in the trailer tire as we were leaving camp. Just finished strapping down the truck when we found it.

Well shit...


Cruising home on the hwy after a day on the mountain and started hearing progressively worsening clunk and vibrations. No loud bang, no hard launches, just cruising home. Now to decide what to do to fix this.

Dislike. Man that sucks. What gear ratio were you running?

 

4.56, time to jump to a bigger rear axle, front locker and 5.29 gears

 

I hope the 4.88s in the 4 cyl holds up. It's also on 37s. The welded diff worries me a bit lol

 

No boost (yet) and only the 4cyl so a lot less power going through everyrhing. Should be fine

 

Ouch, man. Gonna be nice having 5.29s in it finally, but that's a bummer to see the old gears give out like that

 

Anyone need a kidney? Shopping is getting expensive

 

New fixture, welding, fab table “finished” for now. 2’x4’ with fixturing holes. Chop saw on one side, welder and plasma cutter stacked on the other. Few hooks for clamps, grinder, etc.

Are the fixture holes threaded? How thick is the table top?

 

Unfortunately they are not threaded and the top is only 3/16” thick. The sub-structure is what gives it it’s strength and flatness. Good enough for my little garage fab work though.

If it proves to need a thicker top I could probably have them send a second top piece and weld them together. That said using it a little bit to clamp down and build the little side fixtures for the saw and welder it seems pretty dang strong for the price.

 

Nice looking table. What are you planning on building?

 

Sliders, skids, bumpers, anything haha.

 

For your Tacoma or to sell? I'm guessing to sell to help fund the new rear axle and regear. Sorry about the break, but now you have the perfect excuse to upgrade the axle and gears.

 

Yeah to sell, I’ve already got all that for myself. I’ve been doing little side jobs like those for a while now to help fund my Tacoma addiction

 

I need to figure out something to do on the side to fund my project also. These things can sure be a money pit but damn if they aren't fun. What kind of table did you end up with?

 

It’s a certi-flat 2x4 foot table and their leg kit. Than obviously modified it a bit to suite my needs
