I hope all of our friends down south are doing okay and are staying safe. Yes, Wow crazy weather. :canada:

Yikes! The Texas Tribune shows a 3rd gen Tacoma 2WD stuck in the snow on level ground with 2 people pushing it. I wonder if that driver is thinking right about now that the 4X4 option might have been worth the extra$.

Just kidding, not normal conditions down there. To bad they have to show a Tacoma being pushed tho!

    Counterpoint - shitty driver.

My 2WD got around town just fine.

Well, almost fine. Attempts were made to get up my driveway. :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous:

I struggled to get our Mazda up the driveway when I got home from a road trip with the Taco. Ended up reversing to get more weight over the wheels. Still, it took a few runs (at 1a in the morning) to get it placed well enough.

The Taco was having none of it in 2Hi going slow enough into the garage.

Just the fun of snow all around.

2WD and the TRD Sport does not have the locking diff option. The 2WD OR, with the locking rear diff is a decent combo for someone who doesn't do serious off-roading. A regular 2WD Taco is going to struggle with so little weight on the back axle.

I recall a few years back we had pretty bad snow/ice event here in AL. I took my 4WD Sequoia to the local gas station to pick-up some snow day beverages :)cheers:) and there were 2 guys, in 2WD SR5 completely stuck. The station was at a 4-way stop and all 4 roads required you to go uphill. I offered to give them a tow to the HWY but they declined......a 2WD truck, with no LSD or locker is all but useless in snow/ice.

Its been fun for sure, the neighbors have been highly entertained. I threw 15 gigs worth of dashcam footage onto my storage cloud for posterity.

Its in the 40s now, hopefully I did my last high speed reverse up the drive today. I'll claim some skill, but mostly I've been damn lucky not to do a full send through that camper or the wall.

Nice! Looking for the mash up.

That's the thing. I'm never comfy getting into our garage. We've both done damage in the past on more than one occasion. Next place is gonna have some space. Chuck it and park it.

The Tacoma did fine in 4wd but this morning the ice was so bad that some roads were still impassable.

Our neighbor has been keeping us entertained getting a running start to get his 2wd F-250 up his driveway. Snow is to be expected in upstate NY tho so it should be a continuous show until spring.

Had to use 4x4 to get out of my alley in Indy. Backed out of my garage in 2 wheel, shifted into drive, and just spun until I kicked it into 4 wheel.

With that much pressure on the tailgate, I wouldnt be surprised if the bed got pushed into the cab or the frame bent :)

I am an Ohio native and still visit there frequently. I have been in central Texas now for about 20 years now. What happened here in Texas would not be significant to most northern states and is probably good fishing weather in Canada. The weather was quite an anomaly here, but it has been interesting to watch it all play out. .
They don't have salt or plows and the roads were bad. However, I have seen easily worse road conditions with less incident. I took both my Tacoma and VW Golf out during some of the worst of it. I saw a lot of people over estimating the capability of pickups (2x and 4x) during the event.

Roads cleared up pretty good today. Most everything has melted in our area. We got a chill coming in tonight, but the weekend is looking pretty nice.

More gas equals more go right? Don't know what's in front of the truck, but those guys could just sit in the bed and if the driver went easy on the pedal, it'd walk right out I bet. Probably could do that regardless of the help. Maybe the tires suck.

    Probably crappy tires.

I'm in Canada. Not a bad driver in the snow. I currently drive an old 2WD Ranger with old, dry, no name AT tires. It won't even move at the sight of snow. It will spin the tires just at idle

Bad tires, no weight, crummy conditions, 2WD, and a driver not used to it, and you can easily get a truck stuck in snow like that.

Also...I like that this snow in the South that has brought out every Northerner that has never lost traction in the snow. Even once. ;)

.I’m not surprised it is a sport 2wd with street tires . A 4wd would have better odds not getting stuck . Good tires and or chains would really help also.

Problem is they are looking at as stuck, not an opportunity to have some fun with a challenge.

A LSD or locker can be more of a handicap than a help on snow if used improperly. Judging by the photo I'm going with operator error in the photo. A 4X2 should be fine in that situation if the driver knows what they're doing.

I don’t think the tires are shit either, driver just wants to mash it thus just spinning tire.

I will say this. When I mentioned yesterday how I aired down to 20 psi and threw some weight in the bed all of my co-workers were like o_O .

I also mentioned that it wasn't ice that's the killer here. Its drivers that refuse to put a 10 second cushion between themselves and the next car. That comment earned a blank stare too.

Things like that never occur to most people here.

I drove through the snow in my 4x2 Sport on Tuesday to pick up my mom. She can't walk or drive. I have driven Humvees in the Army. You just have to know what you are doing.
