    Hey Texans,
I’m thinking some or all of you are affected by the arctic weather inflicting Texas. The news is horrendous. Very sad to see. It’s got to suck beyond words to be experiencing it..

I, and many others I’m sure, want to let you know you’re in our thoughts and prayers.

Good luck with what your going through. I hope you, your families and friends are safe.

Sucks, but it is what it is. I always have food reserves (like rice and pancake mix) and keep a quarter cord of firewood my shed because you never know. But a lot of people were not prepared at all.

We did have 2 pipes burst at my church yesterday. I spent much of the late afternoon with my shop vac helping get water out.

Thank you very much OP. 51 soon and have not seen this down here in my lifetime. Even in 2011 the rolling blackouts did not effect me or my family. And like @dangeroso mentioned many were not prepared. But I'll also add ERCOT and the governor's office let all of us down. South Texas nuclear was shut down last I heard and it tok a while to get back online. That's just one example of MANY dropped balls for this great "energy state".

having a quarter of your energy production entirely based on "fair weather" generation is ridiculous and the people who made those decisions should face legal action.

This day and age you wouldn't think it would be much of a problem getting electricity turned back on, but it's worse now than ever. It seems normal here in Pa to lose power for a week here atleast once a year. Decided it was worth the cost to get a generator to run most of the house through a sub panel. Just having running water and heat is a luxury.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Thanks, it is definitely something that we don't want to do again, but for the most part the good in people is coming out. People helping each other, despite the few trying to make it rich. Hopefully the best thing to come will be people learning to be more prepared for anything.

Dude, thank you soo much from the northern states. I know you guys are used to this, but we are not. REALLY appreciate the warmth sent from you. Been a challenge for sure, but we have endured.

Thank you for being cordial. I will too by ignoring folks like this that have nothing to contribute. The thaw has begun.

The people without electricity might see the silver lining when they hear about the electric bills some are getting. I'm going to hate mine this month at 1200.00 per MWH. Texas was selling at over 9000.00 per MWH.

Just the electric bill from the prior month due to the little bit of cold weather we had before this was approx $60 jump from previous month. I’m sure this month will not be any better.

Are you on a variable rate or locked in a contract?

You know not sure what they do down here, it’s sounds bad but you sign up for service and they hook you up. It’s a coop electric utility

Which one? I looked up your area and there's like 50 lol.

Looks like most of the power companies in your area have long term contracts.

I read the other day that when out of state line workers came to Texas to help restore power after hurricane Ike they were working on equipment most had never seen, dated back to the 30s and 40s

I’m seeing lots of finger pointing in the news reaching us up north, but I sure hope those responsible for this level of unnecessary suffering, whoever they are, get what’s coming.

I have no doubt that Texans will see their way through this, and emerge stronger and better prepared for the future.

I can't get rates without being a member. I would verify you are in a contract and not a variable rate.

Will need my wife to look into it as she has had the service at this location for about 30 years, I met here her now 10 years ago. I will ask and see what we come up with.

My gut tells me to blame a few greedy cronies but what do I know. Following the threads on here about it all to hear what you locals are saying about it all.

Like someone said above, it’s hard to believe something like this happening in Texas, of all states.
