I bought a 2011 Tacoma this past summer. The Toyota dealer replaced the frame right after I purchased it and said that they would be draining and replacing the oil, coolant, etc. Am I correct in assuming that would include differential fluid too?

I'm asking because I got an oil change today and the service guy said that based on the trucks mileage, it was probably due for new differential fluid. I held off because I haven't even put 3,500 miles on it since getting the new frame. Would the differential fluids be something that had to be changed during a frame change? Thanks for any answers.

Hey, lucky me. The service department was actually open today (Saturday) and he confirmed that they do change the differential fluids when replacing the frame. Just in case anyone else was wondering.

No need for a differential fluid change with frame swap.

Yes, check with Toyota. It should be in the service records for the truck.

Toyota did not change any gear oil or engine oil during my frame swap. Brake fluid and coolant were of course changed.

Trust but verify. Except in the case of car dealers then Don’t trust and verify.

Best thing to do is change it yourself, then you know when it was last done.

At worst you'll be a bit wasteful and hurt nothing, at best you'll be providing a needed service.

    win-win
