    I've already changed mine :D

Any way, I hope what is happening to the Hemi guys doesn't happen to our guys because we have a better product. But I'm taking no chances, going by 5k OCI recommended in the manual.

    Dodge forum:
"Recommend changing oil on any Hemi every 5,000 miles due to the weak lubrication system for the lifters and camshaft. Owner evidence has compiled over the years showing the oil system is intolerant of contaminants that reduce flow rates in an already low flow oiling system. Avoiding idling whenever possible is also helpful.

A member went so far as to custom rebuild his engine to open up oil feed to the lifter and cam areas. See Synthetic Oil Thread"

This is what the oil looked like after 10k in my gently driven Tacoma.

I’m not making it up. Before just now I’ve never checked the oil between changes. It was changed at 4K, 10k, 20k, 30k, 40k & 50k. That was 30 or 40. This is what it looks like right now.
when the first picture was taken I was using Toyota oil. I use Kirkland (Costco) now.

It was from someone from exxon/mobil answering questions about the toyota synthetic motor oil that these 3.5 engines are supplied with. They claim their synthetic is as good as redline, and a couple others. I can't recall where it exactly was...i was surfing through a bunch of different sites not paying much attention where, but do recall exxon/mobil, and toyota 0-20w motor oil being the topic.

Well, at any rate according to mobil's oil guide they do recommend their mobil1 0-20w 20,000 mile extended performance oil for these 3.5 engines.

After my 5000 mile service where they did not change the oil my servicing dealer put a Pennzoil oil change reminder sticker in the corner of the windshield for 10,000 miles. I would say some use what brand they get the best bulk deal on.

If nothing else, this thread helps explain the reason behind the plethora of engines blowing up due to the dumb decisions by the engineers that designed it.

I did mine at 3K ... After letting everything drain from the original filter, it did feel noticeably heavier than a new filter.

At least you got a sticker. My dealer said he'd call me in a few months to schedule me for when my next oil change is due. I kept a copy of all the stuff they did last week....its got my truck mileage printed out on the forms.

Yeah I didn't think about but I'm sure it's to get you to come back by having their name on it too. What brand of oil it is isn't as much important as the correct viscosity and Toyota specific required specs it needs to meet. Pennzoil, Mobil one, Castrol, Shell, Valvoline and any others should all be fine if they meet the owners manual specs and are changed regularly. People often get caught up with brand names too much.

It "feels" heavier because of the emotions required to change the oil...

Page 23 reminder that this is a thread about the FIRST OIL CHANGE as noted in the title about NEW Tacomas.

The first detailed post includes a lab analysis of metal levels that are 20x higher than at subsequent oil changes even after 10k miles only at 3000 miles, corroborated by others at 6000, and 7000 miles.

Subsequent OCI. Are not the purpose here. 10k seems fine both based on plenty full of other lab analyses.

let me repeat since reading comprehension is still lacking.

I'm going to change my oil in May. It will have only a few hundred miles on that oil change. I can send someone the old oil if needed. I figure half off should be worth it.

Why do I change the oil every six months despite having only 3900 total miles on this truck in two years. It's simple I don't drive it enough and it could be considered extreme use since it sometimes never gets up to operating temp. I did drive it two hundred miles yesterday to blow the cobwebs out.
