    Makes sense yeah.

My truck was jumpy for the first 100 miles or so, I do have 265/70/17 C load tires and that’s about it. Now it’s been about 3k miles and it drives beautiful, I’m really enjoying it! I’m on 91 SFOB by the way, I haven’t even tried the base tune yet.

is there any real downside to SFOB over regular 2.0 ? The question I get asked the most is: "Will it give me more mpg" :duh:

Not really. Unless you count that i drive it harder cuz the truck actually goes so i get less MPGs.

I’m over these winter fuels.. I’m getting like 16 mpg right now.

I’m sure mine would be better if it wasn’t so damn cold and most of my driving has been crashing through snow drifts to get anywhere lol

I’m on premium SFOB and I’m getting same mpgs on winter blend as I was getting in the summer on stock tune. So I’m guessing it’s better? I’ll find out for sure when the temps warm up.

Even if it gets same mpgs with the tune, it’s still great because the truck feels a lot quicker.

I think i fucked up. I just flashed 04b14 to my truck then got excited with vFTuner and chose to unlock the already installed file for 04b14 on my computer but that just gave me access to all the 3d tables and whatnot. What i intended to do was get access to all the 2.0 tune pack files that were posted above... now im just confused? do i need to buy more credits? or can i like undo what I just did to where I can flash 2.0 tune pack files?

Credits and tune packs are 2 diff things. Credits give you the ability to edit files. Tune packs are the Pre made tunes

with the new vF that’s supposed to be released this weekend, you should be able to dl the tune pack. We’ve previously had to request it via zendesk

You are good. You can open any 04b14 file and flash any 04b14 to your truck.

When the update comes you will get more credits for your Vin

Gotcha, well is there anyway to get the 2.0 tube pack files without waiting on Mat? The way I understand the new system is that even if someone had the files that they’d have to have that ECU unlocked in order to use them. Feel free to call me out if that understanding is wrong.

I know the new software if coming this weekend but historically he tends to push those promises back a few days and I’d rather not wait if it’s not necessary.

If you know your ECU ID, just send us an email.

Currently the tune pack - credit system isn't online yet because we have to navigate the best way to allocate tunes to credit amount because different vehicles have different pricing.

Flashed from 04b13 to 04b14 then immediately flashed Regular SFOB 2.0 (same tune I was running pre-ECU upgrade) and went for a drive. Very impressed and noticeably better.

1st gear is awesome now vs previously I’ve hated it and 5th is much more usable. Curious who else had picked up on those differences ?

anywsys I’m only 10 miles in but well worth it. I should’ve driven it after the upgrade but before tuning just to be able discern the differences but I was too impatient lol

so i have a general question. what is Toyota able to change in an ECU update (like 04b13 to 04b14) that Mat cannot change himself? Like i agree with the other posters here that the 04b14 2.0 tune is an improvement over the 04b13 2.0 tune but Im just genuinely curious about how that works.

im imagining that Mat only has the ability to modify variables stored in memory (3d tables and such) but cant actually inject new code to override some of the stuff that was holding back 04b13?

It would be interesting for Mat (or someone) to weigh in on exactly what was revised between these two versions.

Like i said, just a curious thought that I had, would love if someone could point me to a thread or post that discusses this if its already out there.

There is the Toyota Base code and there are the OV Tunes that modify some of that base code. Yes. @OVTune has had to dig deep to find the helpful maps and work hard to get RAM dumps and other info that made 2.0 really good.

For folks that have driven 04B14, 04B33, 04B81, and 04B91 Stock for any length of time, they noted that the Stock tune felt OV Tune-y. I have no doubt that 04A72 and 04A42 will feel the same. Myself, 04B14 Stock felt like there was some 1.05 Base in there, which Toyota could easily do. Still, Toyota has decided to not give us the bottom end torque. And, folks with 2021s are saying the tune is an improvement for the AT.

Don't forget the features that only OVT has over Stock. The Single Torque Map Patch, the rewrote AT code, DFCO improvements, the expanded MT throttle tables, and on and on.

My issue, now that we are so far behind on the tsb update train.

If we update to a new one 04b42 in my case, then i have to buy more credits, and another tune pack when it's available.

    I won't be doing either.

If my MIL comes on and i have to update to fix it, I'll sell, more than likely.

Yeah i know the get up, i understand his position as well and am ok with it.

My issue is, through all that the tuning has done, I'm way happier with the truck now than i was before, and am very hopeful that it can be better.

My primary complaint with the truck is still there, worse some days, better others.

I won't voluntarily update to 04b42 and will stick it out and try the new things matt comes up with.

However, if my mil comes on, and that update is the fix, then I'll let it be.

I go through vehicles like underwear, I've never really liked any. I've always bought used, older vehicles.

Thought i would try a new one, my first new vehicle.

It's the worst driving I've ever had.

If i sell it, I'll find another early 90s toyota pickup and finish my 87 4 runner.

I'm a sucker for a 5 speed and roll up windows anyway.
