Some perspective on the SR - the money saved can go to modifications. It really depends what you want to use the truck for... all seats get dirty over time. There are great options for covers (PRP and Clazzio). Fog lights can be installed later and with better quality (Baja Designs). My SX came with flares and I didn’t care about the outlet.

You’re in Canada so you’ll definitely want intermittent windshield wipers. My 2019 did not come with them and was a serious pain but an easy modification.

Bottom line: Get what you want the first time. You’re going to have it for awhile.

The sport looks awesome! The SR looks very practical, but I'm biased.

If you plan to keep it for a long time choose wisely.

[QUOTE="Rhann86, post: 25162428 Also, I would have maybe bought a Sport for a little smoother ride and hood scoop aesthetics...[/QUOTE]
The OR has a softer suspension and more tire sidewall than the Sport so the OR has a smoother ride.

most of the stuff can be swapped in, wheels, fogs, seat covers, hoods, suspension, grills.

stuff thats probably easier to get from the dealer are the smart keys, tech packages (auto cruise, bsm, power rear window), color of the truck obviously (can always get it painted or wrapped).

the smart key and push start would be more difficult, i dont think ive seen anything about installing those on this site (there is a thread somewhere about installing the smart door handle on the passenger side, but works with the existing smart system).

you can go for an after market head unit that adds car play, remap wheel buttons.

there are anytime front/rear cameras you can get too, but not sure about the birds eye view advance tech the newer models have.

seat heaters can be put in (im thinking of clazzios), but the buttons take up more space that the factory installed option.

i personally wanted an SR5 for the power rear window, got upsold to the OR, and rarely use the locker or crawl.

look at what extras you would want

Maybe the Canadian version differs slightly. SR comes with heated seats, heated mirrors, android/apple CarPlay, dual zone temp, backup camera. Plus the interior is all blacked out - no chrome!

Can the SR headlights be upgraded with LED and daytime running lights?

Aftermarket. Do you need any sensors for daytime running? Or they're just on by default?

Also, this SR was driven 300-400km on salt roads from another dealer. Ideally I would undercoat before exposing to salt. Also who knows if it was driven hard on its first break in kms

Should I worry ABOUT THAT OR JUST HAVE THEM CLEAN THE UNDERCARRIAGE? oops caps on

I would pick something other than Undercoating as that stuff always seems to trap moisture and accelerate rusting, there are many Threads on here with many better choices like Body Cavity Wax or Fluid Film.

So I've decided to move on the SR, should have it by Tuesday.

They are suggesting 7yr/120k km platinum warranty for $3000 CAD. It includes service schedule for 3 years (they value it at $900).

I only put 12k kms per year and haven't had any issues with the 2nd gen (134k).

They told me 3rd gen ball joints cost $1200 to replace at the dealer. And that the electronics cost big $$ to fix.

Didn't get the ext warranty last time but wondering what your opinions are on it? Planning on keeping it for 15 years...

    Thanks!

Here in the states the extended warranty runs about $1200-$1500 USD. I don't know what the scheduled service covers other than tire rotations and oil changes, shouldn't cost $900 though.

I'd probably recommend the extended warranty, but haggle down on the price. Google says $3000 CAD is roughly $2400 USD. See if you can knock them down to around $2000 CAD or about $1600 USD.

Yup, that's pretty much all it covers, plus fluid topoff, battery check, tightening prop shaft.etc.

Having worked at car dealers I can tell you the finance department loves to pad the back end of the deal for extra profit. (paint sealants, interior protection, extended warranties, ect.) Nothing wrong with buying any of those, but feel free to and please do make a counter offer. You can always buy the extended warranty after you purchase the truck, but I think it has to be within the first three years.

I didn't buy the extended warranty when I bought my 17 new and have been just fine without it. However, if I were to buy my truck again I'd probably get it for peace of mind.

I do most of my own maintenance and new cars really don't need much in the first few years. Oil changes, air filters, tire rotations, battery, and maybe undercoating protection for salt winter climates is about it.
