I bought my 09 about 6 months ago and everything seemed to work fine. But this winter if I use 4WD and I am going very slow it slips and jerks mostly when I turn. It's perfect when driving at normal speed in 4WD doesn't make a sound. I am thinking the problem maybe that it was rarely used in 4WD.

    any ideas????

That means you don't need to be in 4WD.

Its binding because you're getting good traction.

    PS. Its normal. :D

The Tacoma is 4 wheel drive not all wheel drive. It has no center differential to "differentiate" between the front and rear axles turning at different speeds through their travel arcs. When you're in 4x4 on a high traction surface you'll get what's called "binding" when traveling in anything other than a straight line....worsening as the turn tightens.

The occasional bit of binding won't hurt much. But it does put stress on many components. So keep it to an absolute minimum

Concur with everyone else. Your driveline is binding. Take it out of 4 wheel drive when maneuvering in tight confines, such as pulling in and out of parking spots when on bare pavement, little or packed snow where the wheels may not be able to slip. That bucking and jerking you're feeling, is the feeling of self induced damage, and the resultant very expensive repair that follows.

It's normal. Don't take tight turns in 4WD.

A little history on my 'mostly black' 09. As I said it's my first Toyota and it had 150,000 miles on it but ran out great. A couple of weeks after I bought it, if I stopped at a stop sign it would bang in gear as I took off again. Sometimes slowing for a speed bump it didn't want to shift back into first gear. I asked the deal to at least check the trans level for me and they told me it was fine and there was nothing wrong with the way the truck was shifting.

I may not be a mechanic but I know when something is wrong. I decided to have all the fluids changed but not at the dealers, at a mechanic I know.

Since I had that done it shifts perfect. It was will worth the money but I would never trust that Toyota dealer to any work on it!!!!

    The end
