    Whole lotta stuff
While we are on the conversation of scopes (RIP Nikon optics), question for you all. Looking for a good budget optic for my AR-308 build and saw the Primary Arms 4x14 brought up a few pages back. What is the practical use difference between these two reticle grids?

    https://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-4-14x44mm-riflescope-acss-hud-dmr-308-223-reticle

    https://www.primaryarms.com/slx3-5-...ifle-scope-with-illuminated-r-grid-2b-reticle

I like how the first is doped for .308 cartridges. But I was wondering what the consensus is about actually using them. I’m not an operator, I don’t usually get into the math of shooting, but I have a good understanding. This will be my first time delving into a semi-auto, long range precision rifle.

I'm going to be honest, for a precision rifle I don't think either of those is a good choice. The big hang-up I see is there isn't a good reticle for precision targets. Both would be useful for point targets (largeish steel, like an IPSC) but the moment you're shooting for targets appearing 1-3 moa BDC's become imprecise and that R-grid lacks low-value holds near the center of the reticle. I like the Christmas tree on the R-grid so if you're willing to give up dial-elevation, hold-windage type ballistic solutions in favor of pure hold or pure dial based solutions it's workable for precision targets outside a couple hundred yards, but I'd much rather have a scope without BDC's or Horseshoe-of-death reticles for a precision rig. Those scopes are very well suited for shooting torso sized targets at any range. My opinion, worth what you paid for it.

Edit to add: As far as what I'd recommend at that price point, either a 6 or 10 power SWFA would be my choice. Glass quality is on par, the reticles are simple and useful, the turrets dial very repeatably, and they're utterly bombproof. I use a 10x42 SWFA in Mil/Mil variety on my 22lr and a 3-15x42 Mil/Mil on my centerfires.

The scope isn’t really doped. YOU are suppose dope your load for your gun. As it’s data on previous engagement. Dope isn’t done the same as back in the day. Now a days collecting dope is relatively straight forward, but beside the point I suppose.

The math in the acss reticles are averaged.
Per caliber in a particular velocity range. The user manual will give you those numbers. You will never find a BDC reticle that is good for precision rifle. It’s more of minute of man. Like Eubeenhadd mentioned.

I like Christmas tree reticles too, but I’ve been using mil reticles and the T3 reticle for so long in and out of the military i really don’t like to get out of my comfort zone at this point. Fire correction as a spotter or as the shooter just isn’t the same with a BDC in the mix. There’s something practical for ya.

There are certain things to look for in a precision rifle build when it comes to an optic, id look for something more geared for that purpose.

Spent some time outdoors with the WW Carbon Fiber. So light and enjoyed the simplicity of the iron sights. Often, less is more.

Good Lord this is the first I’ve dealt with one of these new style slings. There must be 10 different ways to use it. I guess just dick with it until I figure what works best for me

    Don't overthink it

Mount it using a 2 point configuration with the slide or quick adjust towards the muzzle

That’s how I have it. I just need to figure out which way I prefer carry I guess left or right shoulder and adjust it. See what’s most comfortable
