Have you used the silky yet? Thinking of picking one up as a back up.

Yeah, but never cut anything really large. I think you can cut something with a 6 inch diameter. It's been a while. It's definitely worth having in the truck because it doesn't take up much space.

I love my silky. Cuts thru stuff like butter. No replacement for a chainsaw, but works great for small stuff or if I don't have the saw with me/ don't want to fire it up.

I don't have an Instagram but I did take a pic on the back side of Lolo this January when the snow was mostly gone. I've used my chainsaw to clear roads 4 times in the last year. I don't always bring it but after wind or when the snow is melting it's nice to have.

I carry a Silky Bigboy and basic axe that I tend to use around camp. I do try to enjoy the peace of the woods. The redneck in me likes clearing roads and bringing home a couple rounds to set aside.

Yes my wife made fun of me for taking this picture. Yes I deserved it. But now I have an excuse to post it... So we can all make fun of me.

This is awesome! Something I would do too. Where up Lolo is that? Right where you hit the power line road?

I have an old bow saw and an axe, and neither takes up much room. If I was going when I knew there might be blow down I might throw one of my chainsaws in, but it’s a hassle and space consuming, especially if you never even break it out.

Yeah I normally don't bring it late summer, but if it's been nasty out and I'm not sure things are cleared.. or if there's incoming weather, I'll pack it. Last thing I want is to be stuck somewhere behind a new fallen log or something, and not be able to get home.

Yeah, I mean who doesn’t love using a chainsaw? But the hassle aspects outweigh the need most of the time. Totally with you if it’s late spring or fall though. The bow saw has cut so many branches with no problems. Pretty sure you can pick one up for less that $30 probably.

That's down the power line road. First left takes you up to a lookout. Had 4 trees across the road near the top. Hand saw could absolutely do it... Chainsaw made it fun.

With an electric? Only hassle is charged batteries and actually throwing it onto the quickfists.

That is why I ended up getting my battery saw. Went in on Bennet Pass last fall, one day after a group went through. Trees came down over night and I barely made it through. I had an axe so that saved me.

Other side note: RCI skids and MetalTech sliders are all inbound! Pretty stoked to beef up the trucks protection soon.

Electric would be nice. I just have a Stihl 170 and a 250. Both gas, bar oil, spark plugs, etc... Electric would definitely be easier. I think about bringing my electric sawzall sometimes but never have.

As great as battery is, if I had any property to justify it, I’d go gas. Battery is spendy for what you get.

My family has a ranch on the coast and we usually cut firewood each summer, so having gas is a necessity. Anyone else ever take a battery recip saw?
