Honestly, its not really too bad of a job. Remove the airbox from the throttle body and then access to the passenger side is fine. Driver side is cake. If you're already taking the airbox off to do the plugs I would clean the MAF and throttle body if you havent done that recently. Basic handtools and some youtube videos and you should be fine.

Hey does anyone know electrical codes here? I have an indirect hot water heater and gas furnace, forced hot water heating in the house. It’s hard wired, I want to wire it to an outlet. From what I’ve read, if it’s a dedicated circuit, I can put an outlet and plug in there instead of hard wired. Anyone know better than me that it’s a good/bad idea?

I have confidence in myself that I could do it but F no I won’t. That ones being done by an electrician. Point would be if the power goes out we can still run the hvac system. We moved in sep 2017 and have lost power for more than 1 minute maybe once or twice, for about half an hour if that? But - after seeing Texas and everyone saying “they weren’t prepared” I realized - shit, I’m not prepared.

I figure this summer I want to do this, see if I can find a dinky wood stove to shove into my fireplace too. If I can run a generator for the fridge and heat, then we can run good for weeks if need be! Wood stove would be for funsies and if the gas does go out (ruh roh!)

yes we want to move to Texas - I’ll probably get a cheapo Wen generator or something off Craigslist. If it’s small enough I’d just bring it with us for the same deal - once we buy a house set up the hvac to run off a generator.

@GarlicFarts if you're going to have an electrician do it, just call him and ask. I did something similar to my boiler. I have the shut off switch at the top of the stairs but then intercepted the 'hard wire' at the unit and put in a single outlet plug that the boiler is always plugged into. Same idea, I wanted to be able to quickly unplug it and run my generator to it without messing with the electric panel. In my eyes, it's the safest way to go, absolutely no way it's going to back feed the electric panel.

Cheers! Didn’t know if anyone knew of any “of course that’s illegal because X Y Z”. I’ll start calling around soon probably. Not that we’ll probably need it before next winter at the earliest. But I’ve got a lot of projects lined up so this one would be a good one to knock out and have peace of mind in priority.

That makes sense. I'm not a code expert however, based on my research, what I did was fully code compliant. It's still a dedicated circuit to the boiler, I didn't change anything like that. The emergency shut off switch at the top of the stairs is still functional and I figure, if there's an issue while it's plugged into a generator I can just go outside and turn the generator off as another means of 'cutting the power' if I need to.

Ok, it really isn't that big of a deal. In fact, thinking more about it I'm not sure I understand Adaptive Cruise. If I'm using Cruise Control it's because I want to go a constant speed. Not slow down behind someone. I just thought if it was easy, I'd do it, but no big deal.

Exactly this. You're basically keeping everything the same with the exception of being able to break the electrical connection closer to the boiler than the breaker box. In a nutshell that's it. Honestly you could easily wire up the outlet. If you can replace a light switch, you can wire up an outlet. It's honestly probably easier because you only have 3-wires as opposed to possibly 5 with a 2-way lightswitch switch setup. similarly, it's super easy to add a plug to the boiler power wires. Just 3 wires, strip the ends, push into correct prongs connection point, tighten Phillips head screw to secure, and put on the plug cover. Bam, good to go. Hardest part with the thick gauge wire is just manipulating it, as it does not want to bend.

With adaptive cruise on and no traffic, it will keep you at a constant speed. If you come up behind someone, it will automatically slow you down at a specified distance behind that vehicle. If you move over to a clear lane, you'll automatically speed back up to your original speed. It just saves you from having to cancel cruise control when you catch someone and resetting it once you move over. I had it on a rental and what I kept finding myself doing was I'd catch someone, the car would slow me down and I'd just sit there behind the other vehicle for like 5-10 minutes going 5-10 MPH slower than I wanted to go and not realizing the car automatically slowed me down because it does it so far back from the vehicle.
