I am currently in my 2nd tacoma. I had an 09 for 10 years and sold it private sale and bought a 19. I am not impressed with the transmission (always shifting) and how sometimes around 45 mph it seems to sputter a bit. Anyone else have these problems?

    Welcome

I think I've read a couple threads on it, I'm sure someone more qualified than me, will chime in. My Tacoma doesn't shift much,,, well not compared to the 10 speed in my Ford F150(company vehicle).
    Enjoy TW!

    This is normal for 2016 - 2019 3rd Gen Tacoma’s.

    Fixed.

It is what it is, I knew what I was going into when I traded my 2009 for my 2021. Alot of modern vehicles do the same thing, no matter the brand. Still love my truck...

Absolutely an issue. My truck does this between 40-50mph when the rpm drop below 1500rpm.
Not exactly clear whether it's TC shudder, or if it's engine lugging, but either way it's noticeable.
Many have taken to dealership and it's considered "normal".
Shiftsense Pro seems to be the most sensible plug-n-play method to change the shift patterns and eliminate the 40-50mph issues.
There are many threads about this if you search around.
I'm waiting to install SSP until after a dealer appt in March, but I've replicated the SSP shift points using S-Mode and I'm confident it will correct my 40-50mph issues.

EDIT: You can check this by shifting over to S4 when the truck starts bucking in the 40-50mph range. If it smooths out, then we're talking the same thing.

I had a 2016 and now a 2020. The 2020 tranny is much better behaved than my 2016.

The 3rd Gen engine is different than the 2nd and behaves differently.
Put your foot into it, don't lug it, use ECT, use S-Mode, and let 'er rev!

Absolutely. The manual explains how to use the different modes of the tranny. I advise people to read it.

Wow, someone who owned a 2nd gen for 10 years and doesn't like how the 3rd gen shifts.
    That sounds like a complaint.
Wait, I thought the release of the 3rd gen brought with it a different kind of owner.. you know, WRX/Civic/race car guys with unrealistic expectations.
    Huh.
    Well, according to TW anyway.
