Time for real talk: TFL and the war on Tacoma

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've commented pretty harshly on one of their videos that I cannot watch their content with Roman still on board. I feel bad, because I don't think he's a bad person. I think he has good intentions, but he's also a fuckwit. He's just not knowledgeable enough to present information about cars. Then again, I'd say the same about DeMuro. Nearly unwatchable. They are successful on YouTube though. I have to recognize that the majority of viewers know even less than these guys.

I like savagegeese for reviews, but I'd like to see them hit the dirt or track more often.

 

My only point, in critiquing this lame video, is that they put an unlocked Tacoma, with traction control off, against a Ranger with the locker engaged, and Trail Control on, and a twin locked Jeep. I feel they should have locked the rear diff on the Tacoma and engaged Atrac for a better showing by the Taco.

It seems ridiculous and lame to me to compare a vehicle with its traction aids disabled, to one with the traction aids enabled. That’s all.

 

I like these guys quite a bit. But, that being said, I know to check out other YouTube channels too for other information. I've also watched these guys enough to know how to take their opinions and how their opinions change.

When the 3rd gen first came out, they absolutely loved it. Nathan even owned a Taco at the time. The Ranger and Gladiator are just the new kids on the block. They raved over the F150 when the 2015 came out, but by the time the new RAM came out they were complaining about the hard plastics on the dash, etc. in the Ford. Fact is they are journalists. When the new Frontier comes out, they'll rave about it for a while and then move on. Especially when the new Colorado and Tacoma comes out.

Often times you can find some explanations in the comments about one thing or another. For example, I added a few when Tommy couldn't get Crawl Control to take him up a slight trouble spot in the 2020. I can't tell you how much I rolled my eyes when they went out of their way to change out the stock steering wheel in their F250 project truck for a leather one.

 

IMO everyone has an opinion whether you listen to it or let it bother you is up to you. Kinda like if you like spicy food or not. Some do some don’t.

You and me both. I’ve watched those clowns once or twice before on other videos. That was enough for me. It was laughable to say the least...

 

I agree. But it would have been worst if they used an automatic and engaged crawl control and it stopped dead on its tracks due to Toyota neutering the 2020+ crawl control.

 

I have owned several Ford's and Chevy and one dodge. I see them on the side of the road all the time. Toyota at its worst is more reliable than ANY American truck. It's not even close. I have a buddy that buys a new truck ever 3 years because he drives 60 to 80k miles a year. He just turned in his 17 taco for a 21 taco. Traded it with 280+ k miles. Oil changes and a few additional services. Not unusual for For Yota

 

All the comparisons miss the one HUGE advantage of a Tacoma. Tacoma World!!!! Where else can you get great advice, great people to go on adventures with great aftermarket upgrades and most importantly get insulted whenever you want! LOL.

 

All Youtube reviewers are meant to be entertainment - although some buy some of the cars they test, the vehicles are free loaners from the manufacturer. They cannot say bad things about them and have to make sure they spread around the love whether it's warranted or not.

There's only one reviewer of vehicles that buys almost 100% of their own vehicles to test.

 

The 2020+ crawl control system is a joke. On my 2017 I’ve use CC maybe three times. I made some mistakes on the trail where I actually needed the computer to fix my f up.

From what I have seen with the new CC system, it would have disengaged in the situations I was in. Not sure what Toyota was thinking when they reprogrammed the CC.

 

Mine doesn’t have this issue. I’ll post a video later. It manages to get up some shit that actually scares me.

 

There are ton of videos on YouTube showing a flipped script. With Tacoma all locked up and crawling on it’s own against a pink Barbie power wheels.

I’m not here to support TFL, but if you do look into their back story they are actually huge Toyota fans. So much Toyota always gives them first dibs on truck loaners for videos.

TFL was one of the first ones to get their hands on a 2020 TRD Pro. They took it on a very capable trail, at which point the crawl control failed. That got a ton of hate from Toyota on that video, because they published a video on it.

 

I don’t think the are Ford shills as I remember them saying Ford refused to give them trucks since they leaked something. But yeah that one guy and his son that do the “off-road reviews” are complete buffoons

 

Ford refused to allow them to be part of the Bronco reveal because they made a video on leaked pictures of the Bronco's they found on the Bronco forums. TFL seems to be the flavor of the month kind of people. They like vehicle with all the buttons and go go gadgets. They are just absolutely terrible and not knowledgable about off-roading. From refusing to air down, causing them break their own vehicles, to calling everything an "overland" build. They do things the complete wrong way all the time.

 

agreed with you, don’t know if it’s just me but they always seems to shit on the Tacoma and put a basic off-road up against a top of the line 60k jeep rubi.

Only one I can stand is the on guy with the long face think it’s andre. Haven’t seen the fat bald guy in awhile. maybe he came to his sensed and left.

 

Andre does great with the towing test, but all 3 of them are terrible with off-road stuff. I know the guy you are talking about, I haven't seen him around in awhile. He pops up here and there. The one guy that know his stuff off-road, left and started his own channel. I believe his name is Stephen(could be way off), he is up in Canada. He did the Power Line trail test with 4Runner TRD Pro with TFL. He started Truck King a few months ago. He was actually pretty knowledgable when came to off-roading and offroad.

 

They actually did that with a 2020. It didn't go well. Although they didn't try using the gas pedal at all.

 

In their defense, they weren't the only outlet to show the photos which had already been leaked elsewhere and were not photos they have been given early access to that were under embargo.

 

TW is nice, but just about every vehicle has their own version. I've been a part of a few. But, TW has been the most fun for me (even though I never really explored the others in depth). TW is much more engaging than 4Runners.com though.

 

Every TFL video I’ve ever seen was disappointing. And why is the fat guy driving the Taco huffing and puffing like he’s pulling it up the hill!? Probably one Bacon Burger from cardiac arrest lol.

I hate slow off-roading. What a waste of what good have been a decent hike
