I see pretty much everyone using adapter rings when they upgrade speakers in their Tacoma. My question is, would it be possible to put speakers in without rings? Has anyone done it?

No. The opening doesn’t fit a standard speaker. It’s gigantic. Spend the $15 on adapters and do it right

Thanks, that's what I was wondering. It's my first tacoma so I'm new to the quirks. Is there a good outlet to get the adapters? I'd assume Metra has them?

Yeah all the big places sell them. Bestbuy, crutchfield, Amazon, etc.

If you buy your speakers from crutchfield they’ll give you the adapters and the speaker wire harnesses for fre. Free is always good. They usually run decent sales as well. :)

Another vote for Crutchfield, for that reason @mwrood mentioned plus great customer service all around.
