Home Built Access Cab Overhead Cargo Net

To complete my AC Rear Seat Delete I wanted to install an overhead cargo net for jackets and hats and such since no one was ever going to sit there.

After searching I found only two manufacturers that do or did make them. One appears to have been discontinued and the other was extremely overpriced.

Decided I would do my own. Below is my rendition of this "attic net". Cost about $10.00 to make.

Looks good and the concept is there the only thing that worries me is the hooks in the back. It looks like the net will fall with any weight. Could be wrong just making an observation. Otherwise its a great idea and something you can potentially sell if you wanted to.

 

The hooks on the back are a concern of mine as well. I have put my heaviest jacket in it and I am now on a test drive. So far so good. I will give it a week or so of daily driving to have a proper test.

 

After a few months of use this net is working great. Putting items I'm and taking them almost daily and the rear attachment setup has yet to come off. It does drope a little, but the rear view is still usable. Very happy with it.

Blue Ridge Overland makes one, I have it in my 2nd Gen and its great. I can throw coats, hats, blankets, etc in it without impairing my view. Its pretty strong too.

They do, but not for the access cab. They used to have one for the access cab. My design was loosely based on theirs.

 

I bought the blue ridge one hoping I could make it work in the access cab but definitely didn’t. I would love to make an attic with some sort of bungee material.

Nice, thick, and durable.

You just need some hog rings. I'm sure you could weave it like paracord stuff also.

 

Did you sow the whole thing up yourself? What materials did you use?

 

I found an old net in the shop loft. It's elastic, and fits Perfectly between the coat hooks. (those little kick ups are the winner)

It was raining today, tomorrow, I'll string some cord between the AC door latches to hang the spider's web.

I used webbing I bought from Strapworks.com sewed box stitches with a machine using polyester thread. I used the cheap lightweight polypropylene 3/4" webbing since it bears little weight and won't get wet. It runs $0.15 a foot.

 

Those "kick ups" you are talking about are what stops mine from sliding off. It almost a perfect 1/2" so I used thinner webbing specifically to catch those...worked like a charm.

 

With a little modification theirs does work

 

@Nyrob , more info on the backseat water bottle holder. . . I'm intrigued by it and now I need to order one, lol.

 

Blue ridge overland has water bottle, and medium fire extinguisher bags which is the one i got its just taller than the water bottle holder. I did paracord loops on either strap end and popped it under the passenger headrest works great for the big bottle that don't fit in the cup holders easy to reach.
