Was wondering if polishing with the porter cable 7427 will damage the TRD decal?

it depends more on the pad, pressure and product you are using. if you were using, for instance, optimum poli-seal and a white or softer pad, no, but if you were using an orange pad and optimum polish or compound...possibly. you don't want anything hot or abrasive on the decal - it is soft vinyl.

^^^ is right. Just use light pressure, and a non-aggressive polish, and you'll be fine.

I tape any decals or trip off with masking tape if I'm using any compound or polish with abrasives.

If you want to be super-careful, just avoid the decals. It's not like you can may the decals any more shiny than it already is.

Opps I said "trip" instead of trim. Anyways another reason to tape off trim is that black rubber trim, especially if dressed, may still hold some dirt and grit after washing. Bump into it with your pad and you've picked up the dirt and are now marring and swirling your paint. I only tape off edges if using something more aggressive like XMT#4 or Meguiar's #105. Decals and emblems can be dulled by abrasives. It only takes two minutes.
