You really think people that can't even turn on a flashlight know what a main breaker is?

The better auto disconnects have ‘break before make’ switches. When you take a generator circuit online, it breaks the line power first.

I'm very interested as to how this Ford system works, AC generators usually are two pole so in order to make 60 cycles it has to turn 3600 RPM reliably OK overdrive it with with pulleys but unless it is some type of inverter system say like a Honda generator it gets complicated fast and seems like a lot of displacement just to turn the lights on. My guess you can buy a really nice generator for less than the Ford option

    From Ford...

The inverter uses dedicated power electronics to smooth out the voltage ripples and produce a pure sine wave at the outlet. Another benefit of the inverter is that it allows the engine to run at a lower and variable RPM as opposed to full throttle to provide the same capability, which results in lower emissions and noise and increased efficiency.

Pro Power Onboard has vehicle mounted inverters, which are capable of generating 2 kW, 2.4 kW or 7.2 kW of output power. The output from the inverters are consistent and reliable power, which does not rely on the engine speed. The power generated by inverter (pure sine wave) is much cleaner than the power produced by conventional generators (modified sine wave).

Probably inverter-style since it works while you are driving; seems like the only way to make it work.

It's just a lot of effort and cost for something that can be cheaper and more portable. It seems like it's oriented at construction crews or fleet cars, but that's a lot of wear and tear on the engine if it's running almost 24/7. I have no clue who the target audience is here.

What I really need to know is when I sell my trailer and buy a motor home and go back to a mid size truck, will the Ranger offer this option?

    The plot thickens

The bottom line on F-150 Pro Power Onboard
But what is it going to cost you? Well, first you’ll have to add the hybrid powertrain, which will cost between $1,990 and $4,995, depending on trim and configuration. Then you’ll have to add the available 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard option, which is another $750. When we spec’d out a base XL with the SuperCrew and 5-1/2-foot box, added the hybrid and Pro Power Onboard – without any extraneous options – we were looking at a price of $43,760 including destination. We configured the Limited trim similarly and topped out at $74,420 – again without any additional options.

I'm pretty sure the Hybrid powertrain is not required (at least not for all of them). Ford stated in an article that non-hybrid powertrain models will have to have the engine running 24/7 to use the generator feature. I would assume that this implies that it is not limited to those models.

Person I know. Half his neighbors have those whole house generac's... Many of them ran their 1,000 gallon propane tanks dry in 3-4 days. Not sure how full they were on day-1, but he said his costs ~$900 to fill.

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster: Day-1, throw on whole house generator like a boss... Day-3/4 realize living large just cost you like $150/day.

There lies the trick of it. Sure, if you want to keep your pool circulated and the upstairs AC at 72, buy the whole house unit. But it'll cost in more ways than one.

I never felt that need I guess. I just want to keep my beer cold and my internet on. :cookiemonster:

Mine just arrived today. It will be connected to natural gas but can run on propane if needed.
