I cut one down, needed a replacement and they’d almost doubled their regular prices from what they were, so you basically have to wait to buy until one of their 40-50% off sales and then be prepared to wait for months.

I went to a Maxxis Razr MT. They hook great and don’t make you completely deaf on the road. My next tires will be another set in 40” flavor

The 50% off promo is pretty shitty but I got lucky and it was going on when I needed tires. At 50% they are a decent deal. At regular price? No fucking way.

Thanks for the feedback on the RAZR. The RAZR and MTR's where already on my short list. Maxxis has been making bike tires forever and it seems like they have dove very well in the wheeling tire market.

Have they chunked out on you much? And how long it it take for them to break in before they started to hook up well?

No chunking at all on mine, just wearing on the edges of the lugs from regular wheeling. After 2 weekends you could really see/feel the sidewalls break in. I went from running 4psi the first weekend to now regularly using 6psi

Well the truck finally got washed so I guess that means I should document it. :anonymous: I'm going back to the once a month wash now...and I'm never going to play in mud as long as I live.

I would put the truck in low low, but I gave into temptation once and very quickly looked at my truck and though "All I've done is create pain for future me." I wasn't wrong. :frusty:

After Operation Sloppy Taco (TW meet and recovery), I hate mud and avoid it when I can. That day was fun though, and I got home after dark.

The next morning I walked out to look at my truck. The closest thing I could compare it to would be:

Monday morning, coming out of a black out, hearing the trash being picked up, realizing you didn't put it out, and gonna be fucked till next week. Then rolling over and realizing there is the ugly skank in your bed that you swore you'd never take home, and realizing you did. Then deciding to stop drinking.

I decided to stop mudding after that last time.

    PAIN.

I remember seeing the after photos of that. As much as I wanted to help, I felt slightly guilty that part of me didn't just because of the mud.

I know I'm late to the party, but I made a spreadsheet to figure some of the gearing options out a while back.
Drive force (basically a scalar of slug) vs speed (MPH) by gear; 5VZ Torque map with A340F ratios; 33"Tire, no Mass. No Torque converter adjustments.
    upload_2021-2-22_9-30-32.jpg
Yellow is 5.29; Grey is 4.88. IMO 500 is a good value for highway travel for a modified rig, allowing moderate top-gear gradeability, ~380 units of this scale is about what it takes to keep my truck moving at 75mph on flat ground.

    upload_2021-2-22_9-35-2.jpg
Yellow is 5.29 again, grey is 4.88 using a tuned, Supercharged 5VZ Torque map, the Low RPM torque dip is real, but I think it is more response based and during partial throttle at low RPM, there is actually more torque available.

    upload_2021-2-22_9-54-9.jpg
Yellow is Stock powertrain/gears with with a 33" tire; grey is 4.88 wiht supercharged 5vz again.

I'm planning on a motor swap now personally, 5vz is plenty reliable, but it makes terrible power and is hugely inefficient vs more modern engines.

Edit: accidently attached more screenshots, now deleted.

Are those graphs for a MT or auto? Cause Corey has an auto so the gearing would be different. Same principles apply though. Rad that you took the time to make those charts!

Graphs included in my post are all of the first gen AT.

The not completely deleted attached files have some MT and 2GR in there tho.
