TheStraightPipes is a way better car review channel than TFL. Yeah they’re car guys who expect every off road vehicle to drive like a Porsche but I’d rather watch them complain about the Tacoma not having Carplay than to watch totally biased TFL videos

Well I personally think Toyota is going to have to up it's game at some point. Mid Sized trucks are being offered, twin locked, lifted with reservoir shocks big tires and winches straight from the factory. Toyota is still just being offered in different trim levels and a rear locker with somewhat gimmickie traction/crawl control.

Lets face it Taco's have a very loyal fan base, me being one of them. But when I see a twin locked Colorado or Jeep Gladiator with a 3 inch lift big tires aftermarket shocks and a winch even I am tempted to jump ship.

Agreed. I think in terms of everyday use as a daily driver and versatility, the Ranger has it beat. This Tacoma is my 1st one and now that I've had it awhile, I think of it like the Wrangler I once had or a G Wagon... it's a great truck, but it's more of a "lifestyle" vehicle.

the point is that they're driving stock trucks. if your stock truck comes with shitty tires, that's a knock against it.

Yeah, I think the bozos at TFL named the colorado their favorite truck or something. But toyota has been playing the world off road game more than most american car companies. For 40 to 50 years there were only two vehicles you were likely to see in any outback in Africa or other 3rd world parts, Toyota and Land Rover. That's it.

But since you mentioned a twin locked Colorado lets deal with that one. Here is a comparison between the Taco and that Colorado. The interesting part starts at 15 minutes.

Didn't see that one coming. Taco beats twin locked Colorado.

Do they ever specify why they choose the MT Tacoma and got the others in an auto? I’ll never understand the need for a manual in a truck in this day and age. They were kind of fun and niche in the old 90s pickup and even the first gen, but they just seem slow and lousy to me after that. The new trucks are just too heavy.

And when you see those trucks on the side of the road or on the back of a tow truck you will happily be cruising past in your trusty Tacoma.

I like TFL and most of their videos. That being said, if you're going to do an off road comparison between two stock trucks, you need to use their available features, not just on one truck. Using a modded truck as a pacesetter is fine.

The 3rd gen is 6 years old, of course Toyota is gonna need to update the Taco, which they will in due time.

And it will be a very, very cold day in hell before I pay 52k for a Ford Ranger. So Toyota gets my $$$.

It’s not for performance, it’s for the fun of shifting the gears

the “loyal fan base” in 2021 is just a bunch of white collar workers who could have gotten by with a Camry but read that Toyota’s “don’t depreciate” and decided they might like to try camping someday

These channels beg/borrow whatever vehicles they can for their videos. The truck they got was either loaned to them from someone/a dealer or was all Toyota had in its press fleet at the time.

Its 2021. “Shifting gears in a truck” and “fun” don’t belong in the same sentence.

The problem with Youtube is that any idiot can make a video and post it. I've seen "gunsmithing" videos that almost made me cry. One guy using a claw hammer to remove a shutting stock.

Use good judgement when viewing videos.

Man you guys are sensitive, they say they like the interior of the Tacoma, they try the hill climb with no assist and fail and then say they are using the locker for the second try and they make it.
