Time for real talk: TFL and the war on Tacoma

impossible, my opinion is the only opinion that should exist because I am the best.

 

I have fun with my truck, it shifts much smoother than any 1st or 2nd Gen Tacoma.

 

Of course lol. I love my Taco, I mean truly, its dependably is unrivaled, and its capable as any 4x4 truck. I added a front ARB Air Locker to make it that much more capable.

But, Toyota will have to, at some point compete with auto makers offering truly trail ready trucks right off the factory floor.

Imagine if you will a Taco that you could get with Fox or Icon reservoir shocks 3 inch lift front and rear lockers, skid plates a bull bar lights and a winch all from the factory and all under warranty. I mean that's a pretty sweet thought, you have to admitt.

 

Why so sensitive?

I like TFL. It's entertainment. Sure, it's light off-road. So what? And they love Toyota crawl control and praise it all the time. Yes it's slow off-road, and?

It's like most automotive things, they like new shinny things better. Stop being butthurt, you didn't get a Tacoma because it was the latest technology and shinny thing, you got it for reliability.

Oh and they said what 8 times that they knew the Gladiator was orange vs Apple. Anyway the mopar dealer lift is probably 100 times better than the new Toyota one. The Ranger just did better. I still won't get one.

 

Agreed it would be awesome, but if they start adding more stuff then the price is going to be even higher than it already is.

 

The problem was the didnt use the electronic features on the Tacoma but they did on the Gladiator and Ranger.

 

Basically the AEV Bison package with 35s for the ZR2.

 

Yes this is true, but then a TRD Pro will truly be a Pro truck, think Ford Raptor and imagine a TRD Pro Tacoma.

Eventually people will figure out that a TRD Pro is really nothing more than some fancy trim and branding. I know that statement pisses people off but sadly it's true.
Give us a truly Pro worthy Tacoma and let the people pay for it.

 

You might be right, alot of people pay big bucks for Raptors, maybe there is a market for high priced Tacoma's too.

Make the "TRD Pro:, worthy of the Pro name, in both substance and style. If Toyota would have given me anything other than a rear locker and crawl control I would not have bought a SR model Tacoma. Period.

The money I saved has already gone into making my bone stock SR more capable than a stock Pro. The front Air locker alone beats any crawl control and the OME shocks and springs make for a better ride. Of course that's just my opinion, don't flame me to badly lol.

When off-roading in an MT, you throw it in 4 low right away for multiple reasons. Peak torque comes in at like 1000-1200rpm, don’t see the issue with low end torque at all.

 

Completely wrong there sir. For some of us we can’t get enough of this 6MT in a 3rd gen. I drive for 3-4 hours straight at times and I want more. My sport feels like a sports car if that makes any sense. Super fun to drive!

 

This past week my neighbor managed to get 3 different vehicles stuck in my yard which is a story for another day. Anyways I hooked my truck up to pull out the Chrysler 300, 4 Low plus the Locker was still not enough traction for me to get him out so I hit the A-TRAC button and proceeded to drag him right out. Its too bad the TFL guys couldn't figure out how to press a few buttons to take advantage of what that Tacoma could actually do.

I like tfl too. I watch their stuff like everyday. The Toyota off road stuff they make is pretty cringe though tbh.

If you wanna see real butthurt go talk to some full size and heavy duty truck owners. They legit get triggered if you say anything about another brand doing anything better.

 

Big boy Steve left tfl and is now on the Truck King channel. He was probably the best one on there imo. Maybe didnt fit in with the cliche. I think the other channel is him and his dads.

 

You are being kind. If they have no clue how to operate A-trac and locker, but can do so in the taco clone called the ranger, I call that willful. Why is the question.

 

The Tacoma was a manual and the manual doesn't have the crawl control.

 

Exactly, but they didnt use A-TRAC which is what is there in place of CC.

 

But it does have an E-locker and Atrac traction control, neither of which they seem to be aware of, at first. They do lock it on the second attempt, but don’t use Atrac to assist the front wheels.

The guy hoons it up the hill at 100 miles an hour anyways on the second attempt so he would have made it in 2WD.

 

The difference between a loaded off-road and a pro is about $3k. If you threw equivalent suspension and some new rims, you are right there.
