P0606 my check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago. I just checked it today and it reads P0606 and says ecm fault... so what exactly does that mean? I was going to take it to the yota dealer to see what was up but i dont want to just yet. I want to see what you guys have to say first. Anything will help. Thank you guys so much! info about the truck 2005 taco prerunner v6. 151,XXX miles. engine mods are k&n cold air and flowmaster 50series.

reset the ecu and see if it comes back, but unfortunately, this usually ends up with an ECU swap.

are there any bulletins out there for faulty ECU processors for the v6?

you could try to flash the ECU with the latest update but that would probably cost the same as a replacement ECU.

out of curiosity, did you got your pedal cut for recall ?
606 is correlated with gas pedal

ecu swap... whats the price range on that? is this like a very bad thing or is it something that i really shouldn't worry about? my truck still runs like new the only thing is that i get super shitty gas mileage.

yes i took my taco in for the pedal recall and they "fixed" the pedal. My truck was recalled for it. Could it be the pedal or something?

I would reset the ecm and see if it goes away. it probably wont but it is worth a try and it wont cost anything! :)

make sure your air sensor in the intake is not dirty( if it is you engine light will come on). K&N cai always seemed to cause problems for me concerning this sensor although I may really be the problem by using too much oil on the filter. Better to use a dry filter.

Make sure your gas cap in on correctly, if not the check engine light will come on, especially if you have a locking gas cap! I took off my locking gas cap and put the stock back, light went off.

I failed to mention also that you need to make sure that after you put the stock gas cap back on that you need to reset the dash panel by taking the negative off on your battery for 20 seconds. That worked for me. Hope it helps!

If the code says ECM fault then it means there is an internal failure of the ECM or Engine Control Module. This has nothing to do with the gas cap or intake air temp sensor, those things have their own specific codes. Basically it's the easiest code to diagnose, you need a new ECM, thats why your gas mileage sucks. Your ECM is running in a "limp" mode which is a basic set of parameters meant to get you to the auto repair shop and get the problem fixed. Get ready to spend some $$$ ECM's are expensive and then have to be programmed by the dealer:mad:.
