Buying a hood with a scoop

Sorry, I know this has been done to death. I've even read a few threads. But can anyone point me in the direction of what I need to do to get a hood and all the assorted goodies for a scoop? I'd like OEM, but if there is something comparable, please let me know that too! Sorry for the "repost", and thanks in advance for the help!

 

usually buy / sell / trade has hoods for sale/trade. how are the headlights btw?

 

Unfortunately, just dustier now..... I've been kind of sidetracked, so haven't done them yet. Should be going to Kevin soon though. Like hopefully this week.

Check the trade pages. I've seen them posted from time to time. Otherwise, buying new is about the only, albeit expensive, way. Hit up your dealer or check out some of the aftermarket hood options.

 

I've thought about looking at certifit or something, but I'm not sure. I have a cousin that paints professionally and owes me a few large favors, so that part is covered. I just know there is also more than just the hood

If you go the route of buying a hood, make sure it's a genuine Toyota part. As someone who used to be an auto body mechanic, there is a difference between original parts and aftermarket replacement parts. OEM parts will have a 1000x better initial fitment as opposed to the aftermarket (non-toyota) manufactured hoods which usually require some massaging or extra attention to make gaps equal/line up.

 

Definitely buy OEM, also when picking up, open and inspect for damage, they're easily damaged in freight. Years ago I bought a hood from the Honda dealer my buddy worked at, I deliberately left it boxed up to avoid damage, a few months later? Another buddy, that was doing the repairs, opened it up and it was damage. Even though my buddy worked there and pleaded with them, there was nothing they would do. Lesson learned.

I went this route, I contacted my local dealer and dropped off the truck all the parts were ordered thru Toyota. That being said, it ran me like 2k to do this. If I had known about the Seibon hood I would've gone with that and saved money and weight.

 

I sell hoods with the mounting location for a scoop, which are CAPA certified products. Not OEM but at least the highest quality when it comes to aftermarket. I would check out and see if you have a local KSI auto parts store near you. You will have to source the scoop elsewhere. They come already with primer which is warrantied, also the fit is warrantied.

 

I have the opposite problem. I have a 2021 Sport with a scooped hood, and I would like a hood without a scoop. Having looked into making the change, I concluded that it's not realistically cost-effective. This is not something I would trust a couple of guys to do in my driveway. When you start involving a body shop, etc., it starts running into money.

 

I’m guessing that is because of the green color? Not many non scooped green hoods out there? If you were closer, I’d have my guy paint both for us

 

Have you posted on the hood swapping thread? I’m surprised if you did and there were no takes... green with a midnight black non scooped hood might look good...

 

It does get strenuous dealing with the amount of panties always being thrown at the scoop! Recently married?
