i was testing it getting off the highway behind a car to see how much it would slow me down. as we came to a stop i got nervous and finally used the brakes hahah

We had one of these at work and the keypad failed and we were locked out. So you get used to it and then one day, sorry!! Still need to stash a key.

 

I'll be honest, might just be me being me, but even the farthest distance is way too damn close to the car in front at 65-70.

I like the theory but the execution was meh. Better than lane keep, fortunately that remembers the setting because that shit stays off.

I had a rental suburban a few years ago and when it sent a warning either lane keep, backing up, etc it vibrated the seat. Nobody warned me.

it goes down to like 27 or something and then it errors out and cancels itself.

 

I had it at the closest setting but it was slowing me down way sooner than I'd normally move over to pass someone. I'm sure I could get used to it but it leaves a big gap between you and the car in front of you and, in the great state of MA, we all know what happens if you leave more than a car length... People keep cutting in front of you and you just keep slowing down and backing up.

 

I think my old Elan probably tops out around 35 or 40, but it sounds like it's going to explode. She's happier tooling along at like 20. But it'll go pretty much anywhere you point it.

 

This is my speed. Especially on most trails I have access too. I’m honestly out there cruising for a little thrill but basically sight seeing

 

I do except for the tendency for it to use high beams even where there are street lights. I flick it off of auto then.

I like it on busy highways where no one seems to maintain a constant speed, but around here they're rarely busy. I end up going 55 before I realize it then because it'll slow down for the person in front of me.

 

That's cool! I still want a MXZ or equivalent as my next sled though. They are much more trail friendly!

Funny thing about those fobs, you can't just use one of those "hind a key " boxes up underneath your truck/car though. It kinda defeats the purpose if anyone can just get in and push the button to start the vehicle. Lol

 

I haven't even been on mine in a few years. It's up at my parent's house and they use it some on their property during Maple season, but the last couple of years we just haven't had enough snow for me to bother hauling it down here.

 

Hell, my old '73 John Deere 400 would run 50-55 on an open lake! That thing would have been better off topping out at 40 though with some better power but it didn't have an aggressive track so it spun a lot. That thing was a bit of a POS but my old man's '79 John Deere 440 would complete blow it out of the water. With the narrow track and abysmal suspension, that thing was borderline scary to drive! At least the new ones can actually soak up some bumps!

Well my Elan's only a 250 twin so it's not that powerful. It's not the SS, so I think it was rated for 15 or 16hp when it was new 50 years ago.
But yeah, that's another reason not to max the speed out with the Elan; that old bogie system uses the passenger as the shock absorber, lol.

 

Borderline?? Those 440's were fucking TERRIFYING!! Super easy to highside the thing on a big bump. Way, WAY scarier and dangerous than these supersleds they have now.

Yeah, you're right. It was borderline because, at the time, I was young and had very little fear of crashing. I grew up riding horribly handling machines with way too much power so the sled was just another one in that category.

So this should be probably be a PM to @Pugga but whatever, talk to me about the brake controller I need to get for the F150. I have a pigtail in the glove compartment, I would assume that is for an aftermarket unit? So the Ford OEM is just plug and play? Or at least until I get a dealer to activate with the computer?

Yep, that's it, it goes under the 4WD switch where you probably have a blank cubby now. Don't need the pigtail, the factory plug for the controller will be plugged into a blank on the back of that cubby now. Forscan will activate it if you don't want to pay the dealer. You're probably pretty far from me, but I've got the software and a cable--it only takes a couple minutes.

Honestly, haven't had it planned yet. Work schedule changes at random for me this time of year, especially with COVID. Worst case I'm sure I can get it figured out myself in the spring . Upcoming few weekends could be free though.
