Oil Catch Can & Aux Fuse Box Install

I will be installing an oil catch can and an Aux fuse box in the engine bay. I am seeing one or the other installed but have not seen both. Each are installed in the same locale, when both are installed how would that happen. I'm thinking the aux fuse box will be installed where I've seen on DIY videos, just behind the main fuse box. So where would the catch can be? Has anyone done this?

 

It’s just a catch can. Put it wherever, like towards the front because you’ll need to get to it to dump it.

 

Check out the JLT catch can. Just installed mine yesterday. Super easy and uses factory bolt hole on intake.

I'm sure that's a quality catch can but the one I installed on my 08 Tacoma simply unscrewed (like an oil filter), dump it out and screw on. No hose removal required.

 

what he said. JLT is a great option. You can just get longer hoses and really put it wherever you want. It comes with the screws for the mounting bracket so if you’re okay with DIYing a new bracket somwhere else, just use the supplied screws to attach the can to the bracket

 

The bottom of the catch can does unscrew for easy removal and to drain out oil.

 

Copy. I watched the JLT cleaning video, they show removing one of the hoses, removing the entire catch can, then cleaning it. I'm guessing that is specific to cleaning the can and not just emptying.

 

Yeah that’s only needed as stated about 10-15k miles. Just normal emptying unscrew bottom and empty out.

 

Is anyone getting much oil in the catchcan on these engines? I have one on an LS1 engine and dont get much, and Im on the throttle quite a bit more than on the taco

I get 2 oz of oil in a 6k mile change. But in the winter I get 5oz of water in 6k miles.

An oil catch can on a non-forced induction, multiport injected engine? Why? Am I missing something?

 

There is still crank case pressure being vented back into the intake track. FI engines will obviously have higher CC pressure and pose a larger need for a catch can, but people still seem to be collecting a decent amount of oil in these engines.

Are 2GR-FKS owners reporting carbon build-up on the intake valves?

 

I dont care what folks are reporting. I've been running oil separators on my cars and bikes for 30 years. In every case they fill with oily slime.

Keeping the intake clean is a win on any type of engine.

 

Gotta keep the industry a live with stuff somehow. 99.9 percent of engines don't utilize them and they are fine. I vented my Harley to a "can" and got oil but that's a little diff than these applications
