He used to work for Autoguide. I met him back in 2015 when a few of us Customtacos guys were flown to California to test out the 3rd gen.

build quality? Yeah I wouldn’t say they are the same built quality as a Gen 2 or Gen 1 for that matter. Gen 3s have their fair issues of problems as any modern mid size.

    oil burn on incline,
    Transmission hunting,
    Leaking 3rd brake light,
    Timing chain leak,
    I could go on forever.

All new manufacturers have issues, too much technology and outsourcing. It comes down to warranties, and Toyota does a great job standing behind their products.

Doubt it's as common as you make it seem. I don't know anyone with a 3rd gen who has any of these issues including me.

So true. On the Macan forum it was a bunch of us talking about detailing equipment, or the few 1%’ers talking about their 9th Porsche. It was a totally different experience though... such polite and respectful guys. :)

That’s great to hear, I would hope you wouldn’t have that problem from a 40k+ Midsize.
AllI’m saying is Toyota isn’t as “problem free” as everyone makes them to be. Toyota uses about 75% of the same outsource manufacturers as other vehicle makers. I just think Toyota has a really good “no questions asked” warranty. Once again as expected from a higher cost manufacturer.

I’ve owned Toyota’s my whole life, might say a Toyota fan boy, but I’m also honest. I’ve owned two Tacomas. One was built like a M1 Abrams running through the deserts of Iraq. Unstoppable. The other was built like a Monday after a uncles 50th birthday party.

But you did have a fuel pump recall and once said you had to mod your truck or else you probably wouldn’t have kept it.

Keeping it real b4 the gaslighting gets bad in this thread as well:

List of T-SBs, etc. | Tacoma World

If you think that a few "man bun wearing" TW whiners forced Toyota into producing a TSB for something like drive ability, well :facepalm:You do know that they have to re-write their calibrations to do this, right?

Before anyone gets their panties in a knot, I like my truck. It's a 3rd gen M/T.

Is it perfect, hell no... and when ppl ask me how I like it, I'm honest about the issues that have cropped up since 3rd gen release in 2015.

Like tire positioning prior to delivery, floor mat placement, key FOB issue. There are some decent ones on that list, but most a lot do apply for the man-bun, IG pics, WRX subie driving folks here

Were you around when the second gen released? You could have sworn Toyota announced the sienna was replacing the Tacoma.

I know this was not directed at me, but I need to answer in general. Most people on forums aren't happy with a stock anything. I have modded every single 4x4 I have ever owned. Hell, my sports car wasn't fast enough and I modded that to uncontrollable numbers. Since when is a stock 911 turbo not fast enough. I had a 1970 RT Challenger 440, I could barely get traction and still modded it to have 200 more hp. Car people mod their cars. I am never happy with stock anything.

The reason why I responded to you is because when you post serious issues, there are people looking to buy trucks who see your post and take it as gospel. If the rest of us don't respond, we affirm what you said. Toyota certainly doesn't need help selling trucks, being the best seller, but people on this site need to know that things aren't near as bad as some on here make it out to be.

Lets deal with facts. None of what you mentioned is systemic. Second, the Tacoma is the best selling mid size truck by a giant margin. And I do mean giant. Almost double tacomas are sold over any other brand, that's 80k to 100k trucks more than the competition. With more production, you will have more issues. Pick the brand you like best, other than Tacoma and I can pick it apart in minutes with more recalls , worse reliability and failures than any Taco. I am not saying that a Taco can't have issues or be a lemon right out the gate, but your chances of getting that lemon are higher with just about any other brand. I am also not saying that Taco can't be improved as we all know it can. But the improvements do come with every generation. The current gen has the stiffest, strongest frame yet and largest axles. It has MTS and ATRAC. I hope the next gen is even better. It should be.

I just posted multiple times a video of the Chevy twin locker ZR2 colorado getting owned on a technical climbing test by a Tacoma TRD OR. ATRAC and MTS are SO BAD that they wiped the floor with a chevy that has front and rear lockers. Yet, on the same thread you have people saying, Toyota needs to step up it's game as the competition is the same twin locker chevy, lol. . I guess they never watched that video. I have owned jeeps for a long time and love them. I can build a jeep on 37's for a lot less than any other brand. They are like lego cars. I also know they have no where near the reliability of Toyota. Neither does Dodge, nor Chevy.

By the way, I am not attacking you in any way, so don't take it as such, just making my points regarding the general negativity I see on this forum against the 3rd gen Taco, which is certainly the best Taco so far if you go off of actual factual improvement information. It's also the best looking Taco so far:D

The 1st gen looks like an angry clown. jk

Most hateful thing I've seen on the internet today. The truck is up the hill, they made it clear with their face expression that they weren't very good with the manual and still made it up the hill without the gizmo.

I don't see the hate mentioned by OP.

It's entertainment, and they wanted to play with the new ford gizmo and they also had the Tacoma during that period. Get over it.
