Hi! My name is Emily, and I'm don't actually have a Taco (yet!). I feel like I'm hunting a unicorn, but I'm trying to find a used 2nd or 3rd gen v6 4x4 access cab long bed /ACLB. I'm expecting to haul around myself/dirtbike and maybe one other rider/friend.

Problem: I'm surrounded by shorties/DCSB and longbois/DCLB. I'd really like the long bed, but the DCLB feels like an overland limo. (I'm 5'4" and coming from a Subaru Forester.) I can score the elusive access cab out of state with a little more effort/time (I'm in Northern NV), but a double cab long bed is more available near me. Is there any case for one or another? Given the content above, would I regret buying one or another?

    Thank you for your time!

    Personal preference really.

I agree that the DCLB is way too long, they're almost F-150 size. If you need the seats and the cargo space and the truck has to be a Tacoma, then that configuration makes sense, but there's no reason to buy one if you won't be happy with it.

Trucks cost a lot of money, it's really worth tracking down what you actually want if you're not under a lot of pressure to buy ASAP or otherwise unable to put in the time and effort. They sold a ton of these trucks, especially out here in the west. One will definitely come up.

    Welcome to TW!

    1. Be patient and get the truck that you want.

    2. If buying out of state, research sales tax laws. California requires you to pay CA sales tax on a vehicle you buy and drive away in, even if you are going to pay sales tax in NV. Double tax. The only way around is to ship it, not drive it, out of CA. Most other states have rules of reciprocity that exempt you from sales tax in the state of purchase, if you are going to register it in another state. OR has no sales tax so problem solved (but the NV DMV is still going to want their cut when you go to register it). Bottom line, do your own research.

    Edit:
For example, here is the form you would use to buy a vehicle in Idaho and avoid paying Idaho sales tax. A good dealer *should* know about this, but if they don't, they are going to collect your sales tax money and give it to the great state of Idaho where you will never see it again. Meanwhile NV will be requiring you to pay (more) sales tax when you register. You would want to be aware of this to push back in case the Idaho dealer asked you for sales tax.

Thank you for this callout! (Ironically, I might actually be moving to ID in a month and I'm already dreading how to register.) I definitely don't want to pay double on this truck!

I have a buddy that is gonna list a mildly built 2011 access cab here in the next few months if you're willing to come to SLC.

Try cargurus.com and filter for exactly what you want. And yeah, DCLB are long...parked next to a suburban they’re the same length

I absolutely love an access cab for looks and the extra bed space, but I also love the extra enclosed storage that the double cab offers. I %100 agree that the dclb can looks like a limo but they do look pretty good with a lift. Long story short I went with a dcsb because I didn’t want the extra frame length and sometimes I regret the decision. If you are dead set on the long bed I say get a dclb, the extra space in the backseat is so valuable on a wet snowy camping trip for protecting gear or even a dog.

Assuming it's under 100k miles, this would be closer than the other trucks I'm finding! I still have transportation on non-snow days (another motorcycle), but ideally I'd find something in the next month.

Its like 98xxx, but I've known most of its history and its just a well kept daily with the odd weekend trips.

I'll talk to him this week and see what his plans are.

Maybe this is silly, but for every truck I test drove, including the DCLB, I went to a parking lot and practiced parking. That's where I began to struggle; The only way I could successfully park was to back in. Guessing I'm just not used to the longer wheelbase. I've been borrowing a 2014 AC Ranger, so I was trying to stay in that same neighborhood. I can't deny the utility, but I'm also in love with how the aclb looks. The long bed is a must, but I worry about regretting the dclb regardless of if I do or not not get one. I also don't know that I'd want to lift it since the low bed is attractive for bike loading reasons.

No, that’s not true. You pay the used/sales tax in the state where you register (if it has one, OR, for instance, does not). I’m in WA and have bought and brought in several cars/trucks/motos from CA and never paid a dime to CA. Just paid the damn tax man up here in WA

OR does not have a sales tax but they still charge something like 2.5% on new car purchases -- forget what they call it, but I sure had to pay it.

    Stock for now.. maybe
It took me awhile to search for the same truck you are looking for but even harder because I wanted a manual transmission. Like months... at the beginning of the search I was looking online a few times a week. Near the end at least everyday. It felt like a job but I didn't want to budge on anything. Like a poster above said 'trucks cost alot get what you want'.

I used cargurus.com alot because you can use the filter to look for everything you want.

2nd issue- they sell fast! After find a few that I was on the fence on I would call the next day and they would tell me something like 'long gone ' or 'sold in 2 hours'. So I started putting a 500 buck deposit down if I thought it might be the one. If you pass make sure you get your money back!

Good luck and get a pre-purchase inspection from an independent shop

For what it’s worth I haul bikes in my CCSB too. Sure, tailgate down but that’ll be the same with the long bed unless you put it in diagonally. And then you only have room for one.
