Hello there! I recently bought a 2021 Tacoma SR 4 cylinders. About 10 miles after leaving the dealership the Check Engine Light turned on. I brought the truck back the following day and they "fixed" it in about 20 minutes. That same day the Check Engine Light turned back on. I took the truck back to the dealership again for a second time. They kept it at the dealership over the weekend and I don't when I'll be getting it back. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas of what's happening? As a matter of low confidence and frustration, I've been reading about the Lemon Law.

In addition to this, I found this dried stain in my garage. I remember the truck leaking water from using the heater but I became concerned because of the white color to it. The leak came from the bottom of the passenger seat. Some where around that area. Isn't the AC filter and components inside the glove box? Any thoughts about the stain? Maybw normal?

    Thanks for your help.

    Ah damn that freaking sucks.

First and foremost, what is wrong with the truck? Like time traveler above said, what is the code? If you don't have documentation, start getting some. Next time you bring it in, make sure they explain and give you a printout of what was the cause and what was the solution. The quick verbal "you're good to go" is only going to screw you in the long run.

No idea about codes. The dealership hasn't reported back. The first time they fixed it, they said that it was something simple and they blamed the seller.

I didn't feel like there was anything wrong witj it. Just the Engine Light turning on and that water from the heater that dried and turned a bit white.

What is written on your receipt from the work order after they shut the light off the first time?

Well when you go pick it up this time be sure to get a thorough explanation as to the cause and solution written on paper. This isn't normal and whether or not the seller did something like unhook a vacuum hose or some other simple thing, you want receipts about what's going on with your new truck.

I made the mistake of not asking for a receipt because they "fixed" it very quickly and just said it was something simple.

Yeah definitely make sure you get documentation as it can help if you have a chronic issue.

Thanks! Last time I bought a car was 5 years ago and it was a Honda. No issues whatsoever. I didn't expect this and It's been really frustrating.

"blamed the seller" ?? -- Please explain...

From your first post it sounds like you purchased from a dealership and have returned there for the repairs. Is this a Toyota dealer? On a 2021 truck nothing should be unhooked or otherwise tinkered with. Was the truck new or used?

Yes, it's a Toyota dealership that sells about 600 cars a month. Yes, it a new truck with only 6 miles. Actually they just called to say that they've found the problem. It's the housing of the master air flow. Manager said the part wasn't 100% perfect in shape when it was installed in the factory. Parts have been requested and will be here on Thursday or Friday.

    Google sez:

Here are some of the most common symptoms of a faulty mass airflow sensor:
    • The engine is very hard to start or turn over.
    • The engine stalls shortly after starting.
    • The engine hesitates or drags while under load or idle.
    • Hesitation and jerking during acceleration.
    • The engine hiccups.
    • Excessively rich or lean idling.

Hope that solves everything... As others have said, get documentation. On paper. Keep that in a file somewhere, just in case.

The quick fix they did was clear the code and give you the keys back lol.

I was confused about that as well haha

Thats awesome if the dealer can get it fixed once and for all. Only thing thats odd is I would have expected the stain to be pink like the coolant. Also, would love to know what the codes were from a small leak.. The truck didnt overheat did it?
