Are the tabs on the rack for lighting?

No. I wanted the roof rack to be low-profile... adding lights would be cool but counter-productive to my goal. The tabs allow the basket to "hook" onto the Thule roof rack.

    Hey Andrew,

Im loving the look of your 295 trail grapplers. Im about to get a pair myself. Im most likey getting new wheels that are 9" wide. I do not have after market uca's do you think I will rub on the stock ones. I have about 3.2"s of lift. Also its a possibility i might mount them on the wheels i have now that are 8"s wide with the proper 4.5" bs of course. Do you think that will be a problem? Sorry for all the questions. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks Mike

Hey Mike... thanks for the comments. After a full year of ownership of the Trail Grapplers, I am a HUGE fan; these tires are uber-capable in dry, wet, dirt, mud conditions.

Before answering any questions... what is the goal you are going for? Is it to sit higher, have a wider stance/ chubby tires? Aesthetics can be achieved various ways safely, if that's what you are going for. If you are going for functionality, then my answer might be a little different.

Well first of all i love the way the 295 trail grapplers look. I originally wanted to go with a true 33 by 12.5 but I like how the 295 is a little taller and a little skinner. also im looking foward to the ground clearance. 3" lift with a 33.5" tire is going to give me some nice clearance in the front so I wont be getting hung up in those big ruts. Im mind is just about made up on getting the 295s im just curious about my stock control arms. Im not worried about the trimming or the cab mount chop.

Gotcha. The general consensus seems to be that once you run 285/70/17, you are going to rub the UCA. A 295 will obviously only make it more noticeable. BUUUUT... As you probably already know, the rubbing depends on the backspacing and offset of the wheel. If you go with a 9" wheel with approx. 4.53" backspacing or -12mm offset then you will most likely clear the stock UCA but rub a little bit on the rear body mount at wheel lock. You may also rub a little on the front plastic which as you stated, you can trim.

Thanks for the reply andrew. Im sorry but I have one more question. I might not be selling my current wheels so if i decided to mount them on their do you think it would be alright. They are 17x8 pro comp 7089s. with 4.5"bs. I think i have i higher chance of rubbing on the uca with the thinner wheel. Correct?

The rack looks outstanding. Boy can that dude design and weld! I like the low profile and I'm sure the quality is bomb-proof!

Nice job- it just adds a whole new dimension to the truck!

I've been following this thread for several months, and I really dig your truck. The M3 ain't too shabby either. (i'm a euro car enthusiast as well)

Whatever happened to the e39 s62 swap? Is that still in the works?

Ditched it. Too many other issues to solve that required major coin. Plus, I finally came to grips that my truck is a slow crawler and a mall crawler... not a Nurburgring trendsetter.

I thought that sounded like an incredibly expensive project that required a ton of engineering gymnastics. It would have been SO dope, though. I guess there's always the TRD S/C if you really need to feed the HP bug, right?

So is Brandon going to be adding this Avid Roof rack to his list of great products for the Taco or was this just custom for you?

Cause I have to say that is freakin awesome looking and their stuff is always solid so I am sold!

When you run out of mods for your truck, what will you spend your extra cash on? :)
