    Not every new car has a proximity key. When I special ordered a F250, I specifically excluded keyless entry/start because I don't like the idea that your entire ability to operate the vehicle is based on a small battery in the key fob.

    Why, in my day, real men carried their keys! Everywhere. On key rings. Usually with nineteen hunnerd other keys we couldn't remember what they went to. In our pants pockets. Where they rubbed an abscessed puss wound into our thighs. And they'd pull us under. And drown us. When we went to the river! But that's just the way it wuz!

    But REAL MEN carried them anyway! BECAUSE THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT WUZ! And you know whut? WE LIKED IT!!!

    I really like using a key to open/start the truck.

    It is becoming common place for everyone to have a cell phone. Hackers are common. If you can use your cell phone to open/start your truck, then so can anyone else with a cell phone, the proper codes and apps.

    Key vehicles will be more difficult to snatch and less desired.

    Yea, so I want one, but will it work on '18?

    Worked for someone on an '18 Tundra. Opened the doors fine but wouldn't lock them. Not a deal breaker for me, as I'd be locking the doors as I closed them anyway. He also wasn't confident in his install.

    @caribe makaira Any thoughts on this? It's marketed for select Toyota's, years '19 and '20.

    Installation instructions attached below.

    It’s pretty common actually. In my Taco I’ve installed a ‘Locker Down’ combo safe in the center console. My thought is to leave my spare key locked in there then use this keypad to open the truck so I don’t have to always have the key on me.

    I’m 90% sure I’m going to add this to my Taco, I just want to play with other ways of mounting it so it’s not as visible.

    The only change I observe is that the same connector to tap on a 2020 has a different label.
    IC4 on a 2020:
    upload_2021-2-22_16-52-15.jpg

    is IC2 on a '16 ~19.

    it's not. There is a cubby under the cupholder to put the fob in when battery is dead. Ford calls it a back up slot. Varies by model.
    The keypad on my f250 gets used very frequently.

    Always awesome. Thanks for having a look.
    I can follow instructions, and these appear to be good ones, but I need it all to match up. lol

    Just attempting to avoid the disappointment of getting knee deep in it, only to find something is 'off' and it's time to reverse course and tape up the damage..

    There are different levels of risk.

    I've been leaving my keys in my Ford, and using the keypad to unlock, at least once a week for the last decade with no issues. This is anecdotal of course but for my uses it's pretty low concern. You'd have to know my keys are in there, or smash my windows on the hope that they may be, and find them in there once you do.

    It's more risky than not leaving my keys in there, sure, but not something I worry about.

    $322 for the kit.

    @Kev250R
    @Chew

    Upon taking a closer look, I'm relatively certain the $140 dollar offering from Toyota of Vero is for the keypad only.
    Keypad: pn 00016-00506-DL
    Installation kit: pn 00016-00506-DK

    The ebay offering is for the keypad AND installation kit.

    Me too.
    It might be worth an email, but I think I've read between the lines.

    I was actually worried about product quality @ the $140 price point.
    Now it's more than twice as much, but comes with piece of mind. :rofl:

    I'm trying to use their ($140 Vero Beach) "contact us" to ask, but it won't let me submit my question. I'll try again later.

    Just need to purchase the mating female molex 5 pin.
    But then the specific switch install tool would also be needed.

    Yeah, the gear is kind ridic, though I already have all those wires T tapped so even if I did it I might as well just recycle the taps that are there. I was pretty confused about why they had a combo of T harnesses and T taps for an OEM ish product. But the keypad seemed nice.

    I was interested for $150 but $300+ is a bit more than I'd consider for something like this. I suspect we could build our own for far less than that?
