When a company does a stock offering what generally happens to the current price? $CCL (carnival) is trying to raise $1B with a stock offering. I’m in pretty heavy since last March and currently up 200%. Should I jump ship (pun intended) or see what happens? Before that announcement I thought it would continue to increase as things open back up but unsure if a stock offering will dilute the shares and cause the price to decrease or stay flat...

 

Generally it goes up or it goes down. At 200%, cash out and watch to see what happens.

It will usually go down with an offering because it dilutes the value of the individual shares.

 

But I want to go up 400%

Now I feel greedy and know I’m going to get burned. Maybe I’ll get out...

if you're up 200%, take profits, cover your buy in and the rest is free.

well...then set a trailing stop loss...or buy a put

 

This is what I thought, and what happened towards the end of the day from its previous high earlier on today. I’ll watch it premarket tomorrow

 

Pre market may or may not tell you much depending on volume. Put a stop loss on it and if it hits breathe a sigh of relief and take your 200%

 

if it dips just double your total shares. from there on out all you have to think is Stonks and Diamond hands.

Always fire on a Thursday. It gives the employee a working day to gather their thoughts, file for unemployment, and start making constructive decisions while businesses and services are still open. Firing on a Friday afternoon just gives them time to stew about it over the weekend while they can't do anything about it.

And @scottstrong89 yes. There's always a reason things get announced when they do. Usually not to our benefit

 

I've been fired twice. Once on a Friday at 4:30pm and once on a Wednesday around 2pm. Wouldn't recommend either

You said you bought in March... Another consideration is short vs long term capital gains tax if you can hold for a year (and a day)

TLDR. Long term cap gains taxed less than short term.

 

I’m no tax expert. My understanding is short term capital gains is taxed as ordinary income, while long term cap gains are likely taxed at a significantly lower rate than your marginal rate. For long term: I think the first $40k or so in profit isn’t taxed at all, and from $40-450k is taxed at 15% or so (that’s if you file single, I think the numbers change depending on dependents/marriage)
