AR-15 BS Thread

Yep I hadn't heard that acronym before. Ha! I learned something else today I like that

 

Thank you! I'm rather proud of it, I can't think of a rifle I'd ever grab before I grabbed this one for almost... anything. It still needs a bit of work, it's a tad long with the can in current guise and could use a better optic, but I can shave 2" off the muzzle end with a pin/weld job and an adapter change, and optics are just money in the end. It's light, handy, and phenomenally accurate, despite what internet commandos would say about a pencil profile barrel.

 

As a reference, here's how it looked 2 months ago. With an optic change and a bipod, this thing handled Mammoth Sniper Challenge easily.

I appreciate alot of things just like i have appreciated different truck builds on here. I don't talk bad about what others have I try to look at it and learn about the differences. Who knows when you will find a great idea. People tend to be very opinionated i try to keep an open mind. i have learned some new stuff on here tonight and i really like that. Hell these gun threads are about all i do on TW anymore

 

As much as I like them I'm not sure they'll stay as is. The GWACS lowers are well documented to have poor tolerances and geometry (this one has a couple issues), which in this case interferes with the LaRue MBT-2S in a way that causes godawful first trigger presses unless it's held a certain way. In 90 degree config there's no issue, but setup for 45 degree throws it's just a tad irritating in a precision rifle match. The sling is great but I think I'm going to go padded so I don't have to pack the rifle to ruck it a long way. I'm not sure if the safety will change or if I'll buy a KP15 instead, I might deal with longer throws in order to avoid milling for the PDQ again.

Everyone needs more lowers

 

I grabbed a few since they’re LMT forgings and want to see how they compare to an actual LMT. If they were more expensive I probably would have passed

I did start a fun little new project

 

I've been tempted to buy some Swampfox optics, they seem to be playing in the Vortex/Holosun/Athlon field and offer a warranty nearly as good.

 

That is the 1x25 blade. It's a prism sight and i really like it. With the quick focus eyepiece it let me accomodate my astigmatism and achieve a nice clear reticle. The illumination can be set bright enough to see on a sunny day. My first experiment with an illuminated sight on a rifle and i am comletely pleased. I have used many illuminated and magnified sights on competitive archery equipment but not rifles.

 

I run my LPVO for the same reason, astigmatism blows. Even Aimpoints bloom on me so it's etched reticles til I die, or get lasik. And let's be honest, if I had 5 grand for lasik, I'd probably blow most of it on ammo lol.

 

It’s interesting that you say that, on both my hunting AR and my “go to” AR the forward sling mount stays pretty close to the upper receiver, my slings (Magpul MS4 or MS1) don’t seem like they’re long enough to run very far forward and in the case of my 556 rifle the limited handguard space dictates that I move the mount rearward to allow a good grip at the front of the handguard.

I’ve been tempted to cut the A2 FSB and put a free floating rail on so I can get a bit more reach forward as well as put the light further forward so the suppressor doesn’t cast as much shadow, and having the ability to move the sling mount forward with that as well would be a nice option to play with.

This will be my first gun (obviously at a rough time in the market). Maryland has some pretty goofy gun laws, but I’m pretty sure this is all legal. As a first build, I’m looking to keep it pretty simple (hence the basic PSA kits). I don’t want to spend more than I have to, but I don’t want to buy junk either. Hoping someone more experienced here can point me in the right direction.
