Yea i hear ya on that one "wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first" is what i was referring to.

 

Intercooler is only there to cool incoming air to the intake manifold. Boost is actually lost through the intercooler. The reason the intercooler is used is to control detonation inside the engine because of too hot of air. The use of an IC will in turn create more power, and in my opinion is a must for any turbo application. It also prolongs the life of engine eternals. A way around the intercooler, is methanol injection.
