I dont have any pictures of them, but the only complaints the kids had was that the lap belt was hard to remove to get out.

Has anyone noticed that when placing a rear facing seat in the middle that the seat does not sit level side to side?
    It dips towards the middle?

Why don’t you put the rear facing car seat on the other side and the forward facing car seat behind you? That way you have more leg room! My son is in a rear facing car seat behind the front passenger seat, once he’s forward facing, I’ll put him behind me and when my wife and I plan on having another baby, I’ll put the baby behind the passenger seat!

I have a baby on the way and have been going down the rabbit hole of car seats.

I have a DC with the rear seats removed and a plywood platform installed. Mostly for our dogs to have a bit of room back there.

Is it possible to have a car seat back there without the bottom part of the seats? I can't find much info online about whether or not it's actually needed for a car seat. I've seen a few posts of people with car seats in access cabs with the rear seats put away. My setup wouldn't be much different.

no - don't do it. They should be installed on the seat with the seatbelt or LATCH like they're designed to be.

I struggled with 2 kids in baskets / rear facing / front facing and in all the combinations (I sit too far back).... now my truck is a work truck and the back seats are coming out next. If you don't want to put the seats back in, get a 2nd vehicle for daddy duty.

The belts and latch system are still there. Only the bottom of the seat is removed. The platform is pretty much the same height as the bottom of the seats were... It just extends over the footwells.

You're likely right in the "no" answer anyway. I doubt many seats are designed or tested with the bottom of the seat removed. Mostly just curious. I just didn't want the dogs losing that extra space for them to lay down. With the 60/40 split if I put the dogs on the 60 side with a platform that leaves the kid on the driver's side which would have me loading/unloading on the traffic side which is not ideal either.

Rear facing seat went in the middle on my Tacoma and Corolla. One day I moved them to each side with forward facing still behind the driver and rear facing behind the passenger as my wife has a few hour to drive with just the kids. After that she insisted on having the middle seat between them for decreased fighting.

Don’t do it, man. Your kids are the most precious things you’ll ever have. Use the seat the way the manufacturer intended.
