Definitely can't beat that rumble. The 5.0L is only slightly modified from the one used in the Mustang. But that's mainly because of the heavier duty application. But those turbos definitely move that power band.

Nothing wrong with trading for a Ford.My other truck is a 94 Ford F-350 4x4 Crewcab,460 v-8 manual, and its built better than any Toyota.
Love my Toyota because I can fit in the garage.

EcoBoost 2.7 and 3.5 are not gutless. Maybe they are using their Neanderthal brain to think that it’s gutless but the numbers don’t lie the EcoBoost out performs the old 6.8l v10 in every way. V8 and V10 are the way of the past in fuel economy and capacity for a “1/2” ton truck.

now the 7.3l gas... another story.

After my experience with Ford and the F-150 I will NEVER again buy another new Ford. The best mod I made to that truck was buying the extended warranty because it proved to be the most useful. Truck looked good until you crawled underneath because all of the floors were rotting out.

I actually like the F150s for what they are. There is a reason why I'm in a Tacoma though. The Tacoma wheel layout is 74" x 127". The F150 is 79" x 144". Its only a mere 2000 square inches difference, but somehow that makes a humongous handling difference, in my mind. Full size trucks feel like lifeless, soulless pleasure barges to me. They don't connect with the road, they float over it. My Ram 1500 tried its level best to put me to sleep on long road trips. There was no joy coming up from the steering wheel, only a dull apnea. A lot of people like that mindless comfort, getting as close to the station wagon/minivan philosophy of handling characteristics without actually being in a minivan. I, being the weirdo enthusiast, don't.

The Tacoma by comparison feels like this, which is precisely why I love it:

Compared to a full size it reacts to everything, and gives feedback on everything. It has personality and quirks. It lets me know when its happy and it will voice its opinion when its not. Its as close to a fun driver's car as a truck can get. In short it makes me smile. And I'll take that over comfort, power, and convenience any day of the week.

True story! Have a couple of new super crew Fords with 6.5 ft bed at work. For space and comfort they cannot be beat, especially the back seat. Like riding in a limo but a bitch to park.

Well it fits in my garage, but just barely.

While the engine is awesome, the 10 speed transmission seems clunky especially on down shifts. I don't know if my truck is defective or all F-150's with the 10 speed is clunky like this.

I have a friend that went from a ~2006 Tacoma V6 extended cab to a ~2017 F-150 extended cab 5.0L. He did like the Tacoma, he bought it new, but said the F-150 gets 20+ MPG highway vs 17 for the Tacoma. Both are 4WD and stock vehicles. I rode in the F-150 with him when it was fairly new and was very impressed with the power. I'm used to fast cars but was honestly kinda shocked how it accelerated when he floored it. Yeah, it's not a Corvette, but for a truck, it screamed.

I agree that a diesel makes no sense unless you're regularly towing. But you should also get more than 2 MPG better with a diesel when towing. Most gas engines get ~10 MPG towing 5000+ lbs and a diesel should get 13-17 MPG. I guy I work with has an F150 with the V6 eco boost and it gets something stupid like 9 MPG (it's single digits) when towing a 5-6k lb loaded enclosed car trailer on the interstate. the eco boost is certainly better for towing as it has more torque than the 5.0L, but both are going to have terrible mileage in comparison to a diesel. But if you're only towing a few times a year you'll come out ahead on gasoline powered.

    Like, so many.
If I was getting a full size I would take a hard look at the F150.

Had a 2012 F150 Supercrew 5.0 V8. Beautiful truck. Absolutely loved it. Great for hauling the family in comfort and for the occasional truck-hauling job. Drove it all over the road and took it hunting a couple times. One hunting trip, I went on narrow trails and tracks and regretted the big truck aspect. Somehow got home from that trip. Next time I went to the same area, I had the Tacoma. Much easier time getting up and back, in fact, I never questioned my ability to get around. Lesson: nimbleness and agility I appreciated. If you never go on a trail, or worse a track, the F150 will probably do you fine (although I would not get a new one because of the transmission). Or put another way, if pinstripes bother you, buy the Ford. Otherwise, you'll appreciate your Tacoma.

Towed my wife’s car 4400lbs on an open car trailer weighing 1650 lbs for 2400 miles in November with my 2.7l EcoBoost I got 17mpg over the entire trip. I must be the only one taking crazy pills? I normally get 22mpg city and 24.5mpg highway. 59,000 miles on the truck not a single issue. :anonymous:

Still want to buy an F150? This is easiest way to pull the engine out of them unless you want to take off most of the front clip. Engine failures were often that I saw while I was working at a Ford Stealership. I used to get ragged on for driving a Tacoma and was even told to park it away from the building. They told me I would sell it after driving one of these fine machines. After seeing this all the time I held on to my Tacoma. Those ECO Boost engines are crap. I also like the trucks coming into the service department with their doors open because they would not open after closed sometimes from electrical issues. Also asked the service manager why the doors on the F150 vibrate when they are closed? Told him my Tacoma doesn't do that. First impressions are deceiving. I also drove a few Raptors and think they are a waste of money too. Same crap engines. Those guys drop $75000 and then drop another $10000 in mods and for what? Keep your Tacoma's. rays phone April 2018 005.jpg

My concern with the Ecoboost is those turbos will have to be replaced eventually! I cannot imagine they will be cheap either.

$4000. That is what one customer told me. They went bad right after his warranty expired. Turbos are nice but a lot of people neglect their maintenance.

My last Ford a 2005 is what put me in a Toyota 2006. They’ve probably gotten better since 05 but after 10k miles and numerous warranty issues I bailed out and looked at the taco. I’ve owned Chevys dodges, nissans even VW trucks. Go ahead buy the Ford some guys gotta learn things close up before they believe.
