6 speed M/T and off roading

Yeah I know alot of people frown at the 6 speed. I was wondering what the fellow 6 speed owners think about about their rig and offroading? Capable, not capable, moderate? Anybody put a marlin crawler on their rig yet? Come on be proud to own manual!

 

I've off roaded in many conditions in my 6-speed and I do fine. First couple of times I burned the clutch, but when you're in soft sand and gunning it, you never have to worry about that tranny searching.

 

all depends.....both manual and auto have advantages and disadvantages

 

I wheel all the time. I prefer manual transmissions.

My six-speed is very capable off-road, but I find it's weakest point is in the soft sand. I've smoked it pretty good once or twice getting it out of the sand. Luckily no permanent damage, but unnerving never the less.

 

Never been over any big rock terrain... I don't know how you manage the 6-speed over that terrain. I'd be doing more damage than anything!

i love my 6 speed and i have been in the dunes, Mud and rocks. I have had no Problems when it come to off roadding.

 

I like auto, I just like to chill while i drive. If i get a manual its going to be on a sport car.

 

By the way taco riding high your Truck is pretty sick.

 

I've done it a couple of times. In my opinion it sucks. Speeds were just too slow so I was basically in first gear and neutral most of the time.

How do you find your clutch is holding up after all that off-roading?

 

My dad is from Ireland and he is an "old school" kind of guy... When he was teaching me to drive (manual) circa 1991 he said the following, "Automatic transmissions are for the elderly and the handicapped".

19 years later and I still have never owned a vehicle with an automatic transmission.

As a matter of fact, I think he said the same thing about treadmills.

 

You drive a stick, you steer an automatic. Love my six speed.

 

I love my manual tacoma.... I had an automatic Ford Bronco i used to wheel in and it was fun but I like the manual tran a lot better mor involved. and I can keep my revs higher in sand and stuff

I wheel the crap outta my truck.... Can't say that I've ever had a problem burning the clutch either...
