Time for real talk: TFL and the war on Tacoma

I think hate is a bit strong of a term. My post here is maybe also for all of our entertainment. The TFL just can’t really figure out the buttons in the Tacoma. Takes more advanced thinking that they are capable of perhaps. Might be the thin mountain air.

You can smell the confusion.

How is the 2020 crawl control different now vs the older versions?

 

It’s the moment he decided he couldn’t figure it out and was just gonna “pin it to win it” with lots of skinny pedal.

This is the face we all make after we hear that 3.5L bounce off the rev limiter.

Also on them, you might believe they don't like Toyota, then if you find their QnA video they just don't use it because how expensive it is.

Matt’s channel is a lot of fun. Lots of hours wasted on my part.

 

Their "drag race" video against a Raptor(?).... where the guy goes "I'm gonna do it in 4wd! Because traction!"

All the 0-60 comparisons I see them do, the big guy with the accent seems to think it's a performance advantage to be in 4wd.

 

I really like Matts Channel, I should have mentioned that I think a lot of people want to just hop in and put in 4wd and lock the diffs and go - not have to turn a button, do a few other things before you get going, like Matt

Dang that's a funny picture. Yeah, he is certainly not the sharpest tool in the box. Nice guy. I don't think there was maliciousness in the comparison and lack of turning aids on in the Taco. Who knows maybe they thought that the Taco is such a god, that it needed no aids at all

 

That one always made me wonder 'does Matt not pull that many 4wd Toyota's out of the sand'?
(but to be fair, they have 'trouble' figuring out every new model it seems at some point)

 

Honestly, I’d probably have to pull up the thread on here to figure out how to turn off all traction aids too.

 

To be honest he probably figured he has it in 4wd, locked rear diff, should be able to gun it now and get out this spot, but the rev limiter kept getting in his way.

 

You mentioning that also reminds of an interesting point.
The OR/Pro default to NO traction aids by default in 4lo. You have to turn them ON, else you just have open diffs.
All other trims default to traction control aids turned ON in 4lo and must be turned OFF to give effectively open diffs.

So the OR/Pro are the least capable trims in 4lo (for wheels in the air), until you turn ON the added functions.

 

Same here, none of those issues. My 18 has been great. I also have 3 buddies with 17,18 and 19, none of those issues.

 

They should look at my post, because I am being honest. I probably am one of the fewest people here with direct experience of every modern Toyota built. My whole immediate family is huge with Toyota, and I’m not talking like neighbors cousin uncle who is kinda like family, I’m talking actual.

I’m probably one of the oldest members here, I’ve been though enough Toyota’s to tell you the Gen 3 is absolutely not built as the quality of vehicle everyone claims it to be.
Is it good, absolutely. Is it problem free? Heck no, it’s a modern truck.

You can dig in to some publications, go to your local dealer and make friends with a mechanic. He/she will tell you the Tacoma has it’s fair share of issues.

If you don’t have them, that’s awesome. Once again you shouldn’t with a 40k+ midsize. If anyone wants to PM regarding any questions please feel free. I will show you in pictures the Amazing, the good, and the WTF with multiple
Gen 3s in the family.

Btw out of the Tacoma’s (including pro) tundra, 4 runner pro and fj in the family I’ll let you all guess which one has had the most warranty repairs. Once again pictures speak volumes so I can produce them if anyone wants to PM me.

 

I just did a wiring job for my buddy on his 90’s 4Runner. I was surprised, having done a lot of wiring on my 3G Tacoma, how nearly identical everything was. Same smallish wires, same electrical tape loom, same connectors, same grade of plastics, same fasteners. Literally felt like no time had passed and these trucks were made in the same country.

IMHO......the surprising thing is how much of a dinosaur the 3G Taco actually is. It’s got more in common with old Toyota’s than it does with a truly modern offering from another maker.
