Hey now, I like it here. Tucson is nothing like Phoenix. You are soured from living up there.

Only part of that state I could live in is Flagstaff, the rest can burn in a cactus fire. Tucson was less burning but the scenery was just as terrible.

the gotcha is that there's an HOA. Generally those types of land have strict requirements on what you can build and how it can be built.

I was super stoked about this lot but HOA stipulates that you build 3000+ sqft house to their specifications with a general contractor

there's very little undeveloped land left in the high country that isn't HOA controlled. Some clever richies bought it all up and subdivided it into HOA lots

Go live in San Diego for a while and then see how you like it in AZ. Yeah, PNW is much nicer but it's almost like living in CA and only getting worse.

Fuck HOAs. I hate them. Pretty much unavoidable here in Tucson unless you live out in the boonies. Which doesn't work well with having a decent commute to work for me right now. Eventually.

I wouldn't live in a border town, that's just stupid. AZ is next to end up like CA cause you guys didn't have your own culture, it's just anger and "fuck you, i got mine" from everyone I met there. PNW has its own culture that jives with the modern world already, and I grew up in it, I chose the east of the mountains area. Seriously my cost of living is lower than where I was in AZ and the general leaning is about the same but everyone isn't sunbaked and angry. You couldn't pay me to live in AZ again, like all expenses paid, live completely free... I wouldn't do it.

I think Tucson is a lot less angry than Phoenix is. San Diego is way more angry and a ton more people too. But I haven't decided that I'll stay here for good.

It's already a massive waste of water to think people should live en masse there. Fountain Hills is a huge fuck you to mother nature and deserves to dry up entirely.

    Oh that's lame :(

When my sister and her husband bought a mountain house with acreage the HOA stipulations said she wasn't allowed to raise chickens, even in a coop. The lots were no less than an acre and I believe she had 2?This was outside fountain so I'm assuming the rules were there to reduce mountain lion traffic in the neighborhood?

Either way I thought it was a shitty rule

I was never a socal person, I think where you jam a ton of people in the opportunity to be more of a dick is just easy. I lived in Santa Cruz in the 90s and early 00s, it was a lot less populous just being Santa Cruz and the time haha. I wouldn't ever go back to CA now. I live in an area of WA now that is extremely spread out, not like huge sprawling metropolitan area, but like a small city just taking up more physical space cause the land is rural and cheap. It's nice being near every common amenity but not actually having to live somewhere populous.

Totally agree. That's how I feel now, living in Tucson as compared to San Diego. Tucson is much more spread out than even Phoenix and less densely populated. But eventually I want even less so. And rain with a little more snow now and then. Although we did get snow here in town a few weeks back for about 20 minutes.
