I've liked the er70s-6 in .030 from blue demon weld.

I haven’t seen er70s-6 from them. Guess I should have looked harder. I used their flux wire and it was good for the price

This is what I've been using too. So far so good.

$28 for an 11 lb 0.030 roll from my local metal monger.

Installed a stubby gas lense conversion on my torch today. Haven't tried it yet.

If you have the opportunity to pick up a torch with a built in trigger or even add a switch you might find that easier.
I have a foot pedal, stand alone switch and a torch with a built in trigger/amp control but most times I’m more old school and insist on using a foot pedal. I can hold a way steadier hand especially wrapping around pipe/tube.
Having said that I know guys that absolutely rock a finger switch/trigger.
Also it depends what your doing. If I am working on hot rod stuff for a show car on a bench I am using a foot pedal but if I am inside an airplane fuselage or fitting SS exhaust onto a car out of position I have to use a trigger.....don’t like it but it’s necessary.
All comes down to position and preference.

This weekend I Fabri-cobbled a skid filler thingy to fill the gap in the bumper cover where an ice chunk got through my radiator at AOAA in PA.

I thought I had a piece wide enough, but it wasn't, so I grafted another piece on. ended up looking better with the smaller top part imo. Saved myself $60ish over the RCI version and got to have some fun making it. Flux core right now because 110v and portability for that apartment lyfe, hopefully upgrade once I get my own place.

doing some stitches to try and prevent warping. peep my accidental blow through lol, still learning
    [IMG]

added triangle pieces and mounting tabs
    [IMG]

ta-da! I also ground off the welds, and left 1 spot that I thought looked nice to remember that I made it. Also rounded the corners and edges on everything, so it wouldn't accidentally cut anyone holding it and just look nicer overall

Hopefully it will prevent any more ice chunk radiator penetration lol. Still need to finish painting now that its not rainy anymore

Nothing wrong with flux core, just makes a little more cleanup from the slag/spatter. I've personally been impressed with the 125 also. I don't see myself wanting to upgrade any time soon.

Yeah I have been impressed too, definitely a good unit to start on and portability of an inverter based unit is unparalleled. Works great since sometimes I'm at my apartment at school, and sometimes take it to my parents house for projects. I've been using Blue Demon 0.035 flux wire from Amazon and it was a significant improvement over the stock crappy wire.

Flux Core is one of those things I was given a few rolls back in the seventies to demo .

I hated it back then even though it was set up on the correct polarity run in the range the manufacture suggested it just was not the end all it was told to be.

Granted I am sure it has improved over time I just can`t overcome my dislike so the spools of wire I get given get pawned off to someone who loves the wire.

I'm not sure how it was back in the 70s, but I like what I have now for the projects that I do. The portability of a flux core inverter unit is excellent, and I don't always have access gas bottles or 220v for anything higher power. Sure, its not going to be the welder of choice for custom race suspension, but it can glue the things together that I need effectively.

The reasons why I'll keep my Hobart 110v machine fluxcore. My new 220v gasser will stay at the shop.

I do need to update my Hobart, a capacitor or something is getting weak and it gets fussy at times. It's old and abused and needs a little love.

Yep, I keep all my welding stuff in a 27 gallon tough tote, and the lid still fits on haha. Perfect to toss in the back and go to a buddies or my parents house to help out with anything they may need.

Remember that hobart still loves you too lol. Give it some love! I honestly don't know much about the welding electronics, but would be something interesting to learn about

Haha Yea, it's one of those older pretty basic setups that does gets all the pixies hot and bothered from the Golden days.

Have you tried 030 flux wire yet? I was a big fan of how it burned vs the 035 on my 120v machine.

The original wire it came with was 030, but that was whatever crappy stock wire it came with and it didn't burn in well. I just picked up that Blue Demon 035 after like 2 minutes of research told me people liked it, probably should have invested more time in that haha. 030 might have been a better choice so I'll grab a roll next time I'm at the depot for experimenting
