I called tom woods today to see about getting a one piece driveshaft made for my 05 DC SWB. I was told that since it was only a 2WD that the shaft was to long and could not be made. Does anyone know if you can get a one piece made for the tacoma. Reason is my carrier bearing tore and a new one from the dealership is 200 dollars. So i figured i would look into a one piece. Please give me some insight does anyone have one?

If you don't mind me asking here, what is the advantage of going to a one-piece driveshaft over the stock two-shaft with carrier bearing setup?

If you have one that would be awesome i almost fell over when i heard the price. Not exactly the price i thought for something so simple. Let me know what you got.

The one piece removes the carrier bearing. If you have ever looked at your carrier bearing it really vibrates pretty good. The one piece removes carrier bearing, and is supposed to take care of alot of driveline issues.

you can always have a local shop make one for you. Then you can trouble shoot any issues if you have them

not sure i want to go that route, i was going with tom woods same reason everyone else does the name and quality. If he cant do it, not sure i want to let someone else try. He really knows his Sh!+.

But won't a drive shaft that is too long just bring on different issues?

thats what they said at tom woods, they would need to make is out of 5 to 6 inch diameter aluminum and not even sure that would work or Carbon Fiber. so each option was going to have its own set of headaches.

Its not rocket science. I had a local heavy duty driveline shop make mine. They have been doing this for 50 years.

It was almost $200 less than ordering one online.

But TW does know his stuff, but my issue was that he is on the western half of the country and I am in VA, and if I have any problems, it will be a bitch to get it taken care of.

but best of luck either way, I love the one-piece. Solved all my take off shutter issues

Wow thats one piece Double cardan. You have DC SB or DC LB ? Usally long driveshafts are hard to balance and they can easiloy become unbalancaed but if that works I would like one but with one difference I want Double cardan behind the bearing not one piece. Who made that for you ??? Can you PM me address/ info?

Another solution I was lookign at is to replace the rear part of proppeller shaft with one from 4runner (double cardan one) just pull the U-joint out and take drive shaft a part. I would think anybody with lifted truck would be looking at Double Cardan second piece. I message my spare 4 runner shaft and it looks like perfect fit. What ya think.

    Justin,

What vehicle do you have the DC SWB? That is exactly what i want but was told it was not an option. I would be curious to see here the specs and who made it as well, what was your cost on it? That exactly what i was looking for.

Jesse over at High Angle Driveline can set you up with a killer setup using a Ford super duty carrier bearing and massive double cardigan joint.

You'll need to ship him your stock driveshaft so he can reuse the ends to adapt them to your transmission and rear axle. You'll also need to make a custom carrier bearing mount since the holes won't line up.

It's far from cheap, but you'll never have to replace it again.

not looking for a killer off-road 4x4 setup just something that may be the same price as a carrier bearing from the stealership. looking to have something made where i do not have to ship things around the country, that would be a killer downtime.

Definitely go with a local shop then. They'll be able to guarantee that everything fits and works the way it should because they'll have your truck on hand.

Shipping alone can cost you the same as the dealer carrier bearing price if it's a back-and-forth thing.

That is exactly what I want. Double cardan after bearing. Thanks for info.
I am assuming yoke/flange is custom made right, any idea what would cost as separate item ? That Double cardan do you know out of what truck is that ?
BTW any chance you have picture of the rest of that driveshaft skid plate ?
