I would really like to install rear-mounted spotlights on my truck, mostly for backing up at night; I was also wondering if any 2nd Gens came from the factory with a cargo light integrated in the center brake light?

Should I go with LEDs or something similar to my aftermarket foglights?

Does anybody have any pictures of their rear light setups?

 

@MESO makes a replacement 3rd brake light for our trucks. You will need to buy some expensive lights to populate it tho (BD or KC lights)

There used to be a neat product called Better Bed Lights that attached to the rear brake light. The guy was member here but by the time I have the extra scratch to buy 'em, he closed up shop.

What about rear auxiliary lights to aid when backing up at night?

 

A lot of folks install back up lights in their rear bumpers, otherwise those MESO rear brake lights someone mentioned would do the trick but they're not cheap of course.

How “not cheap” are we talking here?

 

A cheap and easy solution for bed lighting is to mount LED rope/strip lighting up under the cargo sliding rails around the perimeter. The stick-on strip lights can be cut to length and they're low enough wattage to run fine without a relay on most aftermarket switches.

If you're going to fill the bed mostly/completely to at or above the rails, that solution wouldn't work, but if you just need to be able to sort out tools/gear/bags inside the bed at night it should get the job done.

 

Didn't someone make a backup light that fit in the hitch receiver?

 

Not sure, they're sold out with no price listed but I'm sure they're a few hundred. That hitch mounted one mentioned would be a good solution too.

I can show you what i did for my cargo light. Bought a cheap led bar from Amazon for under $20. And ran the wire into the cab

I have a cap on my bed, so I cut holes in my stock bumper and put in some square flush mount cheapo ebay led lights. It works great, you can wire them up with a dedicated switch (what I have), wired in with your backup lights, or both.
