    Spent 3 years up there - flew in and drove out from Alaska. Would NOT want to drive that road in the snow/ice. I'm sure it's changed since I drove it, but no guard rails and a LONG way down to the bottom :eek:

    Oh wow! I thought you just drove up it for a trip. That would be awesome to be up there for a while and get to explore if you had a chance. I bet that would be scary to drive in the winter especially considering how far help can be.

    still no guard rails as of 2004. Muncho Lake in BC scared the crap out of me...rock cliff on one side and vertical drop into the lake on the other...and you're stuck on a skinny little path with inches to spare. *shiver* never again...never

    I would have to agree... never again. The road did have one good thing... they were banked like a race track on the curves so you didn't feel like you were going to slide off...

    Had they paved it or was it still dirt?

    Paved...yes. There were still a few patches of dirt here and there. I've got a pic of my Subie somewhere, covered in mud and bugs. I think that was the dirtiest my car had ever been! And the curves were nice...Subie handled those well...at the appropriate speeds of course! :eek: Frost heaves sucked - I think I was airborne several times thanks to the frost heaves.

    Did they have the plywood cutouts of police cruisers propped up alongside the roads when you were there? The first one we saw tricked us...the rest didn't phase us at all.
