Ok, I have watched 5 videos on Youtube about the 12 Volt Trailer Charge Circuit on my 50 Thousand Dollar 2020 Ford F-150 and every single one of them they have to cut the wire from the harness and install a relay for it, basically rewire the entire 12V charge circuit completely new, right from the battery with new components. What in the actual fuck is this fuckery?!

So it appears the F150 is not meant to really tow any fucking thing other than a landscape trailer. Certainly not a camper trailer or even an enclosed with lights. It seems the charge circuit only comes on 250's and up. Unreal.

Yikes... That type of crap is actually why I don't buy new, usually it all gets sorted out within the first 10-20k miles or so. Good luck with all that, hopefully they group their poop and get your truck sorted out.
Since everyone else wanted to be 3rd, does that mean I can be 2nd place?

Kidding, I have no use for those, just figured I'd take the opportunity to be a jackass since everyone was fighting over 3rd place... :anonymous:

Damn, that's a pretty significant downgrade from even what my '13 had!

I was rooting for another Super Duty owner on the Tacoma forum :stirthepot:

Just sent you a PM with a thread from the Ford forum that may help. It seems to stem from the CanBus crap. Does your trailer have a battery on it?

Yes, my trailer has a tiny 12v battery for the breakaway switch and brakes.

I am now a member on the F150 forum and this is a huge shit show from what I see. And was made worse when they started selling this trailer backup knob bullshit. Apparently they use that circuit to run that little gem.

I just started poking around the '15+ 150 forum and am finding some of the same. Seems there are many different build options, they really muddied the water with the electrical system, wholly fuck balls! My '13 was real simple, plug it in, turn it on, throw in a relay and boom, good to go.

If your trailer's battery doesn't run the lights, the little LED's might not pull enough for the truck to recognize a draw and fire up that circuit. That's what I seem to be getting from the 'irreplaceable relay' talk.

I am not pleased right now. It doesn't seem like much but I use my trailer so much, and it has no windows... I have to have my interior lights. I guess now my project list just got bigger than just installing a brake controller. I will have to rewire a new trailer plug. FUCKING BULLSHIT. I'm sorry, but GMC had this setup really right. The fucking power was on when the trailer was hooked up, no matter what.

I agree, it's a very big deal. It shouldn't be this difficult to set up a full size truck to actually tow, especially when it came with a receiver from the factory! I can't believe they mucked it up this badly on the 150 platform.

He should have posted this a few weeks ago, I could have TW expressed those things. I'm sure I'll be out that way again at some point but could be a bit.

    That seems like shenanigans.

But, I guess that is kind of where Ford is going nowadays. Everyone is using the F150 as a family vehicle rather than as a pickup, so if they build it as such, it's money saved there, and if someone actually wants to use a truck as a truck they'd get the F250 wouldn't they? what a load of shenanigans.

Still probably the best platform to buy nowadays though.

I just went through to get to Canjo back in January. I have an idea but not a plan to go up to the UP of Michigan, BUT I just looked at maps the other day and the northern route up in Canada around Lake Superior looks really cool too so I might delay that until I am allowed to go into Canadia, so that might be next year instead :(

I’ve had on board water for 2 years now. And I will be sanding it down to 220, outdoor deck/fence waterproofing and sealing stain and then a good coat of urethane. Should be pretty damn waterproof

Ok, I've finally figured out this little gem if anyone cares, and I'm sure they don't. I have everything installed from the factory just fine, it's just a rediculas proceedure to get the trailer charge circuit to activate. 4 things need to happen... the trailer must have the plug installed while the truck is not running, the interior lights must be switched on when you start the truck so the computer senses power draw, the door must be closed when you start the truck, then you must start the truck and hold the brake pedal for 3 seconds. This all needs to happen every single time you start the truck if you want that 12v power from the 7 way. And if the fob leaves the truck while it's running and you get those 2 beeps from the horn? Start at step 1 again. STUPID.

Sorry about the Ford chat everyone, it's starting to annoy me as well.

FYI - That radio requires a ham license. If you don’t have one, it’s pretty easy to get.

Who to fuck thought that process out? Please keep telling us reasons not to buy Ford, something needs to compete with the reasons not to buy a 3rd gen.
