Hi my name is Kema. I have an 04 Tacoma extended cab & the passenger door & panel behind the door were caved in. the body shop wants to cut out the panel & weld in a new piece. Is this safe? or will it compromise the safety of the cab. I do not want to do this, i don't think its safe. can anyone tell me if they have done this. I appreciate your help Kema

Cut and weld body panels is standard operating procedure.

If it's just the skin being replaced, it's a non issue in terms of structure, as long as the work is done correctly.

By 'correctly' I mean fit / finish / rust prevention while the cavity is open.

The door itself can be reskinned entirely if need be.

Pictures of the damage would help the body shop types around here evaluate a little better as well.

If your not sure, you can always take it any shop you like and get another opinion. Like Bill said, if it's done right, you won't be able to tell and the truck will be just fine.

I’m in the same situation. I hit the post at local gas station caved door and access cab panel under small side window in. Was quoted 3k to cut out and replace
