I'm asking with the assumption that you've dived in and have done your homework; if not, just go ahead and ignore my post and I'll do the research later lol

I'm not familiar with both the RELAY CH and EMERGENT CH on my Baofeng -

Receiving is 400.000 and Transmitting is 435.500 for RELAY
Receiving is 442.525 and Transmitting is 442.525 for EMERGENT, with continuous tone-coded squelch...how would I know when to utilize this at all?

I take it it's used when attempting to communicate with other individuals on the same frequency, while eliminating talking to others if set up properly?

Second, did you just program the useable frequencies per our GMRS license into your radio to remain 'legal'?

I have the

$18 Baofeng UV-5R Dual Band Two Way Radio (Black), 144-148MHz & 420-450MHz

Baofeng UV-5R pre-programmed with a ton of channels (weather, county sheriff, etc).

I'm now programming my Mini-T1 which doesn't allow direct input of frequencies; kind of setting these up with preset channels so they're ready to go.

Here's how the radio came from the factory -

 

I’ve dove in a little, not as much as you know that’s for sure. I bought the programming cable for CHIRP so I can program the local municipal frequencies onto it with the names and such. It’s not illegal to have licensed frequencies on your radio, just don’t transmit on them.

 

As long as they actually know what they're doing,they're wonderful.


We could use one for sure. One of the people doing some of our configuration UI's is a fresh CS grad....he's a little green.

 

Yeah I was talking to a friend of mine lately about it, he's a sound designer/engineer in Hollywood and just won a grammy last year for doing the sound production on the show Ozark. But they just had a baby and he wants out of the Hollywood life, I don't blame him. He signed up for a UX program online that's highly recommended, except it's a $14k program lol. Gonna have to chew on that one a bit first.

UV-5R.

The Mini-T1 is a bit different, and easier to program as you just write the tables as needed.

Thing is, I have a limited number of channels to program without the ability to program outside of the software.

One of those 'set it and forget it' radios.

 

I love our head UI/UX designer. They’re worth their weight in freaking gold. He actually was a unionized tour guide at my old company for almost 10 years and made the transition when the pandemic hit. He makes good money, and all from home.

I’ve delved into UI/UX a bit working with our dev team. It’s hard and tedious work that’s for sure, not really something I enjoy. But I can tell the people who do it are really passionate about it.

 

I think that job market maybe be pretty slim these days

Guess I was just asking, what way would you set it up if you simply wanted to have another set of radios for going off road?

I had been on too many outings last year and the year before in the Tacoma where I was the only one with a radio.

I bought a pack (2 more) and figured I could take them with me when others join...such as...tomorrow at Hollister Hills possibly.

 

I'd like to not break my back making that kinda money lol

 

I consider "being there" as "working"

 

I like being able to set my radio to whatever channel I want, it's pretty fine

 

Thanks to technology, there is a wide array of knee-pad types

 

Yeah at that price point I could get trained in something different just as well with money to spare. I don't even know much about the UX field, just something I've recently looked into because he brought it up. I would need to be 110% sure about it before dropping that coin lol.

Being able to work remotely and not confined to an office space is a big draw for me

 

That's why the

UV-5R is my go to.

I don't need others that are with me temporarily to go tuning in different stations/channels.

Guess that answers my question; just program channels one is legally able to transmit on into the radios.

 

We just go to whatever channel no one else is on, never had an issue.

Doesn't seem very hard to find one.
